About this trip

Once a year, Beaufort NC, opens private homes and gardens in the historic district for tours.  For 63 years, this event has been a huge source of community pride and a passenger favorite for Trips by Patty.  This year's trip has morning departures from Leland and Wilmington.  New this year, The 63rd Annual Tour is called the Old Homes Tour and More.  In addition to the private homes, gardens and churches on tour, this year includes art and design studies.  Also, local author,  Kristy Woodson Harvey introduces her new book, A Happier Life about life in Beaufort and the Tour!

The day offers 12 private homes, 9 private gardens and 6 studios to visit.   This year's highlight is the Duncan House circ. 1728.  The home features waterfront views and a front-seat to almost 200 years of Beaufort history such as the shelling of Fort Macon during the Civil War.  Can you just imagine?!  We enjoy a walk through this maze of a home and learn about the history and award winning restoration from  a special docent chapter of the Outer Banks National Charity League.

Throughout the day there is also time to enjoy lunch on your own at plentiful historic district options and pop in local shops.  With your ticket and map in hand, you can set your own pace and determine how many homes,  gardens and studios you wish to visit.

Don't miss this annual event!  Every year, my guests comment not only on the quality of homes  but the amazing art collections on view in these homes and the friendly residents offering personal stories and even golf cart rides if you need a little rest in between homes.   It is a well orchestrated day!

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

I enjoyed the trip. The Biltmore was in its Christmas splendor, the tour of the grounds was informative, the food at the Grove Park Inn was delicious, the shopping was great, and the accommodations comfortable. I’m glad the trip wasn’t cancelled. The people of Asheville were very appreciative of our patronage.

The trip was very well organized, enjoyable with various interesting stops along the route, such as Farmers Markets and Folk-Art Museum! We truly enjoyed the main attraction, Christmas at Biltmore, with it's breath taking beauty and charm! Comfortable accommodations, in particular the new smooth riding bus, and the company of friendly people made this trip and all around pleasant experience! Thank you, very well done Patty!
