Thank you for your Interest in our group trip to Oman! I had such an amazing time here when I was solo in January, and can’t wait to bring a fun group of people with me next time! You will get to experience Oman’s pristine landscapes, interesting history and vibrant culture, all while making new friends!

The itinerary is packed with exciting adventures and attractions, such as the Grand Mosque in Muscat, the sand dunes in the Sharqiya Desert, 2 natural river gorges with turquoise pools, a historic fort, 2 UNESCO world heritage sights, and more.

Important stuff

Please fly into Muscat International Airport (Airport code MCT) Top airlines that fly into MCT are:

Qatar, Emirates, Etihad, Oman Air, Gulf Air, FlyDubai, IndiGo, and Turkish Airlines.

You can even consider a flight to Dubai, Doha, or Instanbul first, and then a flight to Muscat, if its cheaper.

Your passport has to be valid for 6 months from the date you arrive, and have 1 blank page.

Travel insurance is mandatory, and I reccommend TravelEx.

The currency used in Oman is the Omani rial (OMR) and you will need some. Currently, 1 OMR is 2.57 US Dollars, or 3.47 Canadian Dollars. You can get OMR at an ATM or exchange counter. If you choose to exchange, make sure you have newer bills to exchange.

Visas are available online in advance, or on arrival. I recommend doing the e-visa, and that info will be sent closer to the trip.

Women are advised to cover their shoulders and knees at all times, with exceptions at Wadi Shab, and hotel pools. Men should wear knee length shorts, and should not wear tank tops.

In the Mosque, women are required to cover their hair and dress modestly, covering their arms and legs entirely. Men must wear full-length jeans or pants.

FAQ's

Do they speak english? Yes, english is widely spoken, even though their official language is Arabic.

Are you allowed to drink alcohol? Alcohol should only be consumed in licensed restaurants and bars. It’s illegal to drink in public. I never even saw an opportunity to consume alcohol while I was there.

Do I have to cover my hair? Only when visiting the Grand Mosque on Day 1. Although it is always smart to have a scarf, just incase.

What should I pack? Considering you likely know me from my packing videos, I will definitely send out a packing list before we go! I will suggest a carry on bag, with some extra space for souvenirs, or even a packable duffel for the way home!

What will the weather be like? It will vary based on the destination of the day. But all of the destinations are hot from 11-4, with no rain or clouds. In the desert, you will have cooler mornings and evenings.

Cash or Card? Most of your spending opportunites will be in the market, where cash is king. However, if you are buying something more expensive, cards likely will be accepted. ATMS are available, make sure to have a debit card with a pin. I managed 4 days with only $250 USD, but it depends on how much you shop!

What will our transportation be like? We will have four 4x4 vehicles at all times, as opposed to one large bus. It is easier for parking and the desert sand, and nobody likes a huge bus. Cold water will always be available.

What can I expect food wise? The hotel/camp breakfasts and dinners will be buffet style, and will offer a lot of options. Other meals will depend on where we stop.

Expect a lot of Arabic Coffee (Qawha) tea, and dates, as it is constantly offered to you as a welcome in shops and hotels.

Is it safe? YES! I know this area of the world leaves your loved ones to be nervous, but I assure you, its lovely and peaceful. Plus, you will have all of us with you, and local guides.

Will I have internet? The hotels will have WiFi, and the desert camp should as well (but keep in mind, youre in the middle of the desert, it might not be great) Consider turning on data for the day, or getting the Airalo app for data, if needed. I have t-mobile, and my phone works internationally. You may lose service on drives, depending on your provider

What kind of wildlife might I see? Camels, donkeys, and goats!

What is popular to buy as a souvenir? Pottery, frankincense, spices (especially saffron) palm handicrafts, Omani silver, gold, traditional Omani clothing, scented oils, tea or coffee, incense, scarves, kaftans.

Itinerary

Arrival Day
Arriving into MCT

You will need to arrive on, or before the start date of your tour. Our official tour will start the next morning at 8am, so your flight arrival time is very important.

If you want to arrive earlier (or stay longer) an extra hotel night can be arranged at an extra cost, but no activities on those days will be included. I can also help guide you to visit a nearby country before/after the tour.

Please fly into Muscat International Airport (Airport code MCT)

You will be picked up at the arrival terminal and taken to our hotel, where Lauren will be waiting with your welcome bag!

Once we have all flight schedules, we can attempt to plan something optional for the arrival evening, but that is TBD.
