Great experience!   Instructor was very helpful and had us riding a wave safely in no time.   

Private surf lesson

This was so much fun & a unique/private tour. My husband, I and 9 year old went on this SUP tour. Mike and the pooches were great. Mike gave us clear instructions and was kind and helpful if he noticed we needed guidance. We paddled to a quiet and remote part of the island where we saw pufferfish and mantarays in the bay. This was a sunrise tour so the way back was absolutely beautiful. The water was clear and the natural beauty was amazing. (P.s. my daughters favorite part was Ambar and Osa.) Mike is very friendly and knowledgeable- if we return to CR....maybe we can try surf lessons with him!

Tortuga surf camp was perfect! I’ve taken beginner lessons before, but this was by far the best. My friend and I had one instructor and he was knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. We both caught multiple waves and it was her very first time. Also, there weren’t many other people in the water, which was nice

Semi private surf lesson

After a really positive experience on a previous visit, I booked in again with Tortuga Surf Camp for my son and I to have a one-to-one lesson.  We met with Laity, Ivo and Flor.  They were super positive, attentive, friendly and supportive throughout our session.  We thoroughly enjoyed the session and want to return in the future.


We had two amazing lessons with Leo! He was extremely helpful and super nice! Everyone at Tortuga Surf camp was so kind. Awesome group of guys! Thanks for everything 🤙🏼

Maude Mondou-3 people group lesson Sunday June 22th at 11am

overall good experience with the exception it had rained hard several days previously and brought rocks in from the river onto the beach/surf area.  The rocks are where you surf so as you can imagine our feet didn't feel too great.   We didn't have water shoes (not knowing there would be rocks) and our feet were pretty beat up.

The place was easy to find with the description on their website.  The team was knowledgeable and super friendly.  My family had a really great time.   They dilivered on what they offered.  This team works really hard and it’s worth what you pay for!! 

This was an absolute highlight of my time in CR. Having no experience and being a tad older I was trepidatious to say the least, but read on various sites that it is a must do. Mike Gutierrez and his guys were spectacular to say the least and this is likely due to the passion they have for the sport which comes through in spades. They are detail oriented, hyper focussed on safety and explain things in a way anyone, regardless of age or experience can understand. I am looking forward to a return in the new year…this time watching my children learn to surf. A million thanks Mike, your passion is infectious and I am truly happy to have spent time under your tutelage.
