Climbing the rocky summit of Pasochoa (4.200 m / 13,780 ft) is a wonderful tour out of Quito for getting first high-altitude experience or as preparation for the higher summits. This beautiful summit is approximately an hour outside of Quito and offers wonderful hiking in the Andean grasslands with views of the surrounding volcanos. The hike to the summit is in general straight forward, there is a small scrambling section towards the higher of the 2 summits at the very top. Definitely a trip of a lifetime - join us!

Technically the climb is not very difficult, nevertheless good fitness is required and some previous experience highly recommended.

Another very important point is proper acclimatization. To really enjoy the climb, we recommend at least having stayed a day in the city before climbing it.

Start at approx. 7:30 am, drive to the parking area in one of the private haciendas (3500 m / 11480 ft). From there we start the hike through Andean grasslands to the summits of PASOCHOA (4.200 m / 13,780 ft).
During the hike we enjoy wonderful views of the avenue of the volcanos with its snow caped summits and also the impressive city of Quito. The hike to the summit takes about 3 hours and the descend 2 hours. Afterwards we head back to our accommodation.

It was an amazing trip. Mariscal & Christian were both incredibly knowledgable and helpful the whole way up. They gave us input on climbing and the best methods but did not force anything on us. When we decided to turn around a thousand feet before the summit, neither Mariscal nor Christian made negative comments but were understanding and guided us right down. I really enjoyed the trip and appreciate both of our guides. It was a great experience and I would recommend Mariscal and Christian to anyone.

We would like to take a moment and give our Gratitude to Andean Summit Adventure. If there was a place to write 10 stars I would. It’s taken a week to write this review because I wanted to find the best words that I could to write a 5 star review. Paulina and I had been in touch with Elisabeth for over a year prior to our trip. She was very attentive and knowledgeable. She answered the million question we had for her as well. Elisabeth put us both at ease that we had chosen the best guiding service to take us to the summit of Chimborazo. At Andean Summit Adventure, they make you feel not like clients but family and people that you can call friends. We did the 8 day trip, this included climbing Ruco Pacincha 4,696m, Iliniza Norte 5,127m, Cotopaxi 5,897m and last but not least Chimborazo 6,270m. With Andean Summit Adventure safety and the well being of the people comes first before anything. This was an incredible touch that really made us feel that they cared and had our best interests in mind. After planning and training to climb Chimborazo for two years Andean Summit Adventure made this happen.
