The Camino Portuguese is a very special tour because it crosses two countries (Portugal and Spain) and it allows you to visit extraordinary cities such as Porto, Valenca, Pontevedra and Santiago de Compostela. This tour follows the traditional itinerary of the Portuguese Camino that uses the shortest way between Porto and Santiago through the interior instead of the longer route that travels next to the sea. The Route starts in Porto and we recommend you take some extra time to visit this very special city famous for its Port wineries. You then cycle initially next to the ocean to avoid the busy roads leaving the city to then go into the countryside up to Barcelos, Ponte de Lima and Valenca. These three Portuguese towns are perfect stops because they are small sized towns which are full of atmosphere and great places to explore in the evenings with a good choice of places to have dinner. We then cross the River Miño that represents the natural border with Spain and Visit Tui, Pontevedra, Caldas de Rei and Padron on our way up north towards Santiago de Compostela. This tour is a great option If you have already done the French Camino and are looking for alternatives or if you want a gentler alternative as this route is shorter, and not as physically demanding as it is less hilly and mountainous

Clients make their own way to the hotel in Porto which is centrally located. The group will meet up with their guide for the week at the hotel reception at an agreed time and head off together for dinner, to get to know each other and be briefed on the tour that awaits. This will also be our opportunity to walk around town and get our first stamps on our Pilgrims passport. We recommend you spend extra time in this lovely city if you can, exploring its old city center, the buildings covered in blue painted tiles, the cathedral, and visiting some of the famous Port wineries.
