Retreat with Brinkela

About Brinkela

Brinkela has been practising since 2014 and has been teaching at different studios and gyms over the years. She has been studying  Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Yin yoga, and has been teaching public classes as well as private sessions, workshops and retreats. She focuses on technique and alignment and she adapts the practice to each student, so they can progress safely through the Ashtanga series. She firmly believes that this practice is for everyone, and that anyone willing to put the work in is able to do it.

“I get inspired when I see my students reach their goals.”

I would never do this retreat again. The villa was beautiful and the yoga was good, but the lack of proper communication from the host of the retreat was not worth the better parts of the retreat. Before I arrived at the retreat, it was very difficult to get a response when I asked a question via WhatsApp or email and I should have taken this as a red flag. It took 14 days for me to get a response to 1 question I asked the host and I even emailed them again after 9 days of not receiving a response. I recommend getting your questions answered before you pay for the retreat. Many students on my trip were unsatisfied with their rooms when they arrived so I suggest you ask for pictures before you pay since there are no pictures provided on the website. When I got to the retreat, many more problems came up. One common issue that came up throughout the whole week was the gate to the “main” villa (where we had classes and meals) would often get stuck and you couldn’t get in or out of the property. This was especially frustrating on the final day when I stopped at the main villa to get breakfast and pick someone up to go to the airport. The gate was stuck on my way in and again on my way out which was stressful, not knowing when it would open so I could make it to my flight on time. I informed the host both times the gate was stuck, but I feel this shouldn’t have been an issue, especially on the last day, because it was a known issue throughout the whole week that could have been fixed permanently by the day most of us had to leave for the airport. Also, one day, 3 staff people went through my room to fix/look at something and I was not informed ahead of time about this. Our bed sheets were never changed during the trip and it was very hot with no air conditioning. Another thing that was promised on the website of the retreat was “welcome presents” which we never got during the retreat. A student asked about it in our WhatsApp group chat on our last full day and they didn’t get a response, so I replied to their message and asked about it and included a screenshot of where it was promised on the website along with a link to the website itself. When the host did reply, I found their response to be insensitive and rude of where all of the guests were coming from. They said they did not have enough gifts for everyone and that we got “quite a lot” with a dinner and a boat trip. I feel as though the host should have properly communicated with the group about the issue with the welcome presents and if there was supposed to be an alternative to the welcome presents, that should have been communicated as well. There are 2 villas where students stay and have activities and we never got a map or tour of all of the facilities so people would be confused as to where classes and massages were located. In all, I feel that the host lacked empathy for the guests that traveled long distances to Mallorca for the retreat and failed to understand our perspectives when we would try to explain them. There was only 1 host for us to communicate with and I ended up feeling uncomfortable in relying on them or trusting them with anything significant. Having to deal with this host was the one downside to an otherwise good trip. There are other beautiful locations to practice yoga with wonderful yoga teachers.

We had an amazing week. This place is magic. Loved everything about it. The shala, the food, the pool, the rooms. We will be back!

The yoga, the food, the place, and the gardens are lovely. The rooms have no AC, making sleeping difficult during Summertime. I expected a better bed, sheets, towels, and cleaning services.

I loved Laruga and David; they have very high level as I expected. They helped me to understand the essence of Ashtanga Yoga and they corrected me some my wrong asana. But on the other side I didn’t like my room in the small Finca closed to the Shala. The room was very far away from my expectations. It was old, not really clean, no AC and with the bathroom outside (no soap or other stuff). There wasn’t any daily cleaning service and also the two days dedicated they just changed the towels but not cleaned the room or bedroom. Basically no one was there (leaving in the finca) to help us with any issues, no reception etc. I mean for the price that I paid I supposed to have a luxury treatment but it was really really basic as 2 stars hotel. I asked to Pilar (the organizer) but she didn’t support me in a good way. I think that on the website is not really clear that there’s not any service but this is not related to the high price. The food was good, not really varied but good.

I went to the yoga retreat 2021 and omg It was so nice arranged I can't believe how well Pilar did this with the amazing teacher Laruga. I highly recommend this even if beginner as they take care of you from scratch and all you really need is a positive mind and willingness to learn and you are to have the time of your life!!!
