Itinerary

Roatan Kayak Adventure
Itinerary

Day 1 - The adventure officially begins at the Juan Manuel Galvez Airport (RTB) on the trip start date. Your Northwest Passage guides will greet and transfer you to the West End where you can settle into your room. Before dinner your guides will lead a short paddle to get familiar with your kayak and basic rescue skills. A sunset welcome reception, trip orientation and dinner will round out the evening. (D)

Day 2 - Immediately following breakfast, you will begin the first leg of the kayak journey around Roatan. Paddling east, you’ll kayak past Sandy Bay and several diminutive cays. Deep water channels through the reef provide excellent snorkeling opportunities along the way. At the conclusion of the day’s on water journey, we will shuttle back to the West End for the night. (B, D)

Day 3 - After shuttling to the launch, the eastward journey continues through mangrove cuts and along sandy beaches to Turquoise Bay. Along the way there’s an opportunity to snorkel amongst giant starfish. (B, D)

Day 4 -  The eastward paddling journey continues with a lunch stop in the Garifuna town of Punta Gorda. After lunch we kayak past Punta Blanca ultimately stopping for the evening in Camp Bay. (B)

Day 5 - After paddling a short distance along the north coast, we kayak through a “secret” mangrove cut that traverses the width of the island. After emerging from the cut in the former pirate haunt of Port Royal, we kayak to Calabash Bight, the doorstep of a roadless, aquatic neighborhood. (B, D)

Day 6 - You’ll kayak through the aquatic boulevards of the town of Oakridge as we make our west along the southern coast. After crossing several bights (tiny, finger like inlets) around the corner of the prominent Caribe Point we conclude our paddling day in Dixon Cove. (B, D)

Day 7 - Today the goal is to complete the circumnavigation of Roatan. After passing the island’s main town of Coxen Hole we’ll round the western cape of the island and return to the shores of the West End for our final evening on Roatan. (B, D)

Day 8 - Following breakfast, transportation will be provided to the airport where we’ll part ways until our next adventure together. (B)

Note: This is our intended itinerary. As with any adventure travel, the forces of nature can be unpredictable, causing us to make adjustments and changes to the itinerary. Rest assured that our many years of exploring have provided us with numerous options if changes need to be made. If it is too windy to paddle, various hiking, cultural and historical options will make you glad for the winds.

The Northwest Passage was founded on the belief that there is no better way to fully experience the world than by engaging with it on its own terms. Whether that means clambering over a pressure ridge on one of our North Pole expeditions or exploring a sea cave by kayak on the southern coast of Crete, we have an adventure of a lifetime that fits your activity and skill level. These adventures are designed for the body, mind and soul, perfect for those who seek revitalizing vacations. Come ready for a trip. Leave ready for anything.

My son and I had a fabulous time. Crystal clear water for paddling and swimming. Great scenery. Clean, comfortable accommodations. Wonderful professional, competent, helpful, friendly and enthusiastic guides Chris and Sean. I'd do it again in a heartbeat but I think next time I'll try a different trip.

Our family of 5 had an amazing time exploring the Apostle Islands with our guides. Our kids had a blast and will never forget this trip. We felt safe and prepared for the adventure. And to top it all off the food was terrific! One of our family members requires a gluten free diet and they were able to accommodate that with no issues. Thank you, Chris and Ted and Northwest Passage, we could not have asked for a better family trip!

A great, fun sea kayaking class. Keith Heger is a wonderful teacher. We were given all the necessary kayaking equipment so all we needed to do was show up. My classmates and I learned how to paddle in beautiful Lake Michigan and then learned/practiced rescue techniques. I would recommend this fun and educational class to anyone interested in sea kayaking as Keith was able to accommodate all paddlers, regardless of skill level.
