For this trip you will need to arrive in Managua, Nicaragua no later than 12pm on Monday, January 20 and depart the same place no earlier than 1pm on Monday, January 27. We will be there to meet you at the airport, and we will take you back there at the end of the trip.
If you would like to arrive the night beforehand, we suggest staying at the Best Western - this will be our meeting place on the 20th for those who arrive early and is a 1 minute walk across the street from the airport.
Please note that if you book flights outside of these parameters you will be responsible for your own transport to meet up with the group.

GENERAL THINGS TO CONSIDER
*This is an active trip with most of the day spent outdoors. Some dinners are on the “nice” side, so make sure you have a few sets of regular clothing in addition to your workout gear.
*Any type of luggage is fine, but remember: no one ever wishes they’d brought more stuff! Stick to the essentials and pack only what you need. If your luggage is too big or too heavy for you to carry it all yourself, it’s too much stuff. Expect to carry it up and down stairs J
*Have some sort of ‘day bag,’ whether it’s a small backpack, messenger bag, etc. It should be big enough to carry money, a camera, a water bottle, and a jacket – something you can keep with you in the vehicle.
*You don’t need a different running outfit for every day. You can easily re-wear a few items throughout the trip, and a rinse-out in the shower keeps things clean enough. Please do not plan or rely on the chance to do laundry.
CLOTHES
*3-4 pairs running shorts
*3-4 short sleeve running shirts/tank tops + jog bras and 1-2 long sleeve running shirts (good for sun protection, and the volcano hikes can also be chilly at the top!)
*3-4 non running shirts/tops
*1 pair non-running pants or jeans
*1 pair non-running casual shorts or skirt
*1 warm jacket (down or fleece - for the mountains)
*1 rain jacket or windbreaker (good chance you'll want this on the volcano!)
*1 lightweight jacket or pullover
*Underwear
*1 set of sleepwear
ACCESSORIES + SHOES
*1 pair trail running shoes + 1 pair sandals + 1 pair non-running shoes (optional)
*6-7 pairs socks
*Running hat
*Sunglasses
*Day bag
*Swimsuit
*Shower towels are provided by the hotels but please bring a small pack towel for sweat/rain/post run swimming.
*Hydration pack (make sure you can carry at least 1.5L of water + phone + an extra layer/snacks)
*Poles (optional) - can be nice for volcano descents, especially for anyone with knee or IT band issues
TOILETRIES
*Shampoo/soap/conditioner
*Toothbrush/toothpaste
*Brush/comb
*Few travel packages of kleenex and/or wetwipes (emergency/backup TP)
*Feminine products
*Razor
*Contacts/solution if needed
*Sunblock
*Mosquito repellent (non-aerosol for travel)
*Moleskin or bandaids – we’ll have some of this for the group, but blisters are a common problem and it’s good to have some of your own on hand
*Any other medication you may need
DOCUMENTS
*Passport (US/Canadian citizens must have 6 months validity from date of entry)
*1-2 credit/debit cards (make sure to call your bank the week before departure and tell them the dates that you will be overseas, and make sure to tell the that you will be in Nicaragua along with any other stops that you have planned. This way they won’t put a security hold on your card).
OTHER STUFF
* Phone/camera + charger
* watch + charger
* Reading / writing material
*Ear plugs if you are a light sleeper/your roommate snores
*Electrical adapter if traveling from outside North America: Nicaragua uses Type A & B outlets (2 flat prongs with or without ground - same as in the US and Canada).
Most everything is already paid for, but you'll likely want to purchase alcohol and other personal purchases along the way. Please note that cash is king in Nicaragua; it's best to assume that your credit card will not be accepted most places. The local currency is the cordoba and it doesn't hurt to get some at the airport, but US dollars are accepted pretty much everywhere (small bills are best!).
> Alcohol, coffee and other drinks/snacks that you might find along the way. Expect sodas to cost about $1, a beer or nice coffee $2-3 (note that coffee will always be provided with breakfast!)
> Souvenirs: You may come across goods produced by local artisans and designers that you want to purchase as souvenirs; prices run the gamut and it's tough to know what you'll spend, but we can also help you get to an ATM if you need more cash to buy something.
> Tips. Your entire trip will be spent with guides & drivers who go above and beyond to create an amazing experience for you. While tips are never expected, it’s always appreciated if you enjoyed your experience; any gratuities will be split evenly amongst the team.
Country: Nicaragua
Language: Spanish
Currency: Cordoba ($1 USD = 36 NIO at time of writing)
Landscapes:
Lush jungle, cloud forests, cone volcanoes and a stunning Pacific coast line with beautiful sandy beaches
Food:
Breakfasts will include lots of fresh fruits, often the options of gallo pinto, a Nicaraguan classic of beans, rice, eggs and of course local coffee. For lunch we will sometimes picnic and sometimes go a la carte at a restaurant or cafe. Either way you’ll have plenty of options! For dinners we will have a private chef for the first two nights and eat at some of the most highly rated restaurants in Nicaragua for the rest of the trip. A surprising variety of dishes can be expected, everything from local classics like mixed ceviche, and pollo a la plancha (grilled chicken) to asian curries, great pizza and delicious fresh local salads.
Drinks:
Delicious fresh fruit juices are a stable of Nicaraguan breakfasts, and you'll be treated to locally produced coffee as well. Toña, a light lager, is the most commonly found beer, though you'll also see lots of Victoria and even the occasional microbrew. A wide variety of cocktails are found at hotels/resorts; wine choices will generally be limited to red or white :)
Tap water is not considered safe for drinking, though it's fine for brushing your teeth and whatnot; we will make sure you have easy access to bottled water throughout the trip, and we always encourage people to travel with a personal filter to reduce plastic waste. There are many travel-friendly filtration systems - we're personal fans of Katadyn BeFree soft flasks, and Grayl bottles.
Weather:
Expect it to be hot and humid, pretty much all of the time. Highs will be 85-90F, and lows will stay around 70-75F.
Connectivity:
Wifi will be hit or miss throughout the week. You can expect reasonable connections at most hotels, coffee shops, etc. Those with international data plans will find it easy to stay connected - strong data coverage just about everywhere.
