About this trip

This retreat is guided by the experienced leadership of Robin Duryea. Drawing inspiration from both her time in Ashrams in India and living in Hawaii, the intention of this retreat is create an experience that feels both individual and collective. You'll have twice daily practice, guided by Robin, while shared meals and time on the land brings us all together. We will learn from and experience what the Hawaiian's refer to as "ohana," the Hawaiian word symbolizing a profound sense of belonging and connection that extends beyond biological family. Come meet a small group of people who all share a love for yoga, nature and relaxed living.

Join for a retreat experience that not only embraces the principles of unity, loyalty, and cooperation but also cultivates a harmonious equilibrium between personal growth and collective collaboration.

We will all play a part! Those who enjoy cooking will play the role of 'retreat chef'! Those who love nature and the land will play the role of 'junlge farmer'! Those who enjoy taking pictures & capturing moments in video will will be our 'retreat content creator' (IPhones are great) helping  to share this growing place with others. Everyone will have a role to play!

  • Chefs: Bring your culinary passion to the forefront by creating nourishing meals that will be the heartbeat of our community. Food to be prepared will be on-site and ready to go at the start of the retreat.

  • Farmers/Land Care Enthusiasts: We are in the process of getting the farm up and running. We need help! Share your knowledge and experience in farming or basic land care, playing a vital role in maintaining the natural beauty that surrounds us.

  • Photographer with Professional Camera: This will be a unique and special week. As a new and growing venture we want to share our offerings with the world. Capture the essence of our time together with your professional skills, preserving the memories we create throughout the week.

  • Photographer with Camera Phone: You good at sneaking a good image? You an undercover Ansel Adams with that phone of yours? Utilize your camera phone to document candid moments, adding a personal touch to our shared journey.

  • Videographer: We'd love to get a video of this rare and special atmosphere to give others an idea of what to expect. Take on the role of documenting our communal experience through video, creating a lasting visual record of our time together.

  • Building Skills Enthusiast: Contribute to the physical aspects of our community, utilizing your building skills to enhance our shared environment.

Embrace the spirit of Seva and Ohana where everyone has a place allowing us to relax and enjoy simple living with each other, ourselves and in harmony with the profound nature that is the Big Island of Hawaii!

Yoga on the Big Island, Hawaii

Welcome to the serene haven of Kualoli Retreats, an off-grid butterfly sanctuary and fruit farm nestled along the historic Red Road of the Puna coastline.

This Seva Retreat unfolds on three lush acres adorned with a vibrant tapestry of fruit trees, including limes, grapefruits, tangerines, coconuts, papaya, banana, ulu, starfruit, cacao, avocado, cashew trees, and more. Here, nature reveals itself in all its splendor, showcasing the island's diverse elements.

Immerse yourself in the rhythm of the land with two daily yoga classes, led by Robin Duryea, that harmonize body and spirit. This retreat isn't just about self-discovery; it's a chance to give back to the land through communal work, fostering a sense of connection with nature, the joy of Seva, and appreciation for our shared humanity.

Engaging in the labor of tending to the earth holds a profound healing power. As hands connect with the soil, there's a visceral exchange of energy that transcends the physical act of cultivation. The rhythmic cadence of planting, nurturing, and harvesting aligns one's spirit with the natural cycles of growth and renewal. Amidst the array of fruit trees at Kualoli Retreats, each moment spent working on the land becomes a meditation, a therapeutic dance between human and nature. The healing unfolds not only in the tangible fruits that blossom but also in the quiet moments of reflection, fostering a deep sense of connection to the Earth and an internal harmony that resonates long after the work is done. The act of tending to the land becomes a symbiotic journey of healing, where the soul finds solace in the embrace of the earth's nurturing embrace.

From India to Hawaii

Inspired by my transformative experiences in the Ashrams of India, I am excited to integrate elements of that profound atmosphere into our Western retreat culture. Our retreat center is uniquely situated as a private property, generously shared for its magical elements. The architectural blueprint and design embody a communal spirit, reflecting Hawaii's 'ohana culture, where the ethos is that we are all family, interconnected across the globe.

In addition to our standalone jungalows, experience a unique stay, where a handful of like-minded individuals come together to share the main house—a spacious villa that fosters a sense of communal living. Our commitment goes beyond personal well-being; it extends to the stewardship of both land and people, echoing the essence of Aloha. This profound understanding emphasizes that caring for the land and its inhabitants lies at the heart of our concept.

In this open and expansive environment, we welcome everyone to share and partake in the abundance that surrounds us. At our retreat, we celebrate the belief and understanding that there is more than enough for everyone, creating a harmonious space for shared experiences and connection.

My inclusive approach to yoga and life enables me to relate with and to hold space for students wherever they are in their practice and their lives. At the same time, my belief in the power of the practice and the potential of each practitioner challenges students to see where they are ready to evolve so that they too can access this transformational tradition as a tool to invoke radical consciousness, wild sovereignty, unwavering self-expression and untamable love. My passions for art, music, and travel lace my teachings with the freedom to create one’s own experience on the mat to embolden students to pioneer their own paths in life. As a Bay Area native, I ultimately promote yoga as a medium to build a thriving community that respects the truths of all.

I had a wonderful time at the Grace and Gratitude trip, and I hope to attend next year as well. I loved the classes. I was pleasantly surprised that I left the retreat with sore muscles. It felt great! I also liked that the yoga classes were long and extended, rather than just taking up a few hours or so each day. It truly felt like a yoga immersion, which is exactly what I wanted. The food that was served was delicious- just one of many things I enjoyed about the Ratna Ling Retreat Center. It was very luxurious and peaceful. I did not mind the rain at all, because it was nice to be cozy inside. I was so glad that we got chant during the retreat- I wasn't sure we would, and my expectations were definitely fulfilled. I love chanting, and it was beautiful to hear all our voices together. Finally, the pranic breathing workshop was an incredibly interesting experience that I will remember for a long time. It definitely was unique, and I'm so glad that I participated. Thank you, Robin, for an amazing retreat! Can't wait for next year

This was marvelous retreat. Perhaps the best of the 5 yoga retreats I have attended. Robin sets a very welcoming tone, paces the moving yoga beautifully and enables a highly spiritual, contemplative atmosphere. The members of the group were uniformly lovely.

This was such an amazing experience. The retreat is in a secluded area surrounded by nature and wild life. It's so peaceful and serene. Robin is an amazing yoga instructor and everything she planned went super smoothly. I love going on retreats with Robin because it's not just about the yoga it's a full experience from her amazing energy to her beautiful voice, singing, chanting, relaxing, eating well. I feel so nourished from head to toe and from inside and outside. Words won't do her justice. Next year I hope to take my Mother with me on this retreat. Thank you Robin for all that you do for us. I feel like a brand new person after this retreat.

Robin has been my favorite yoga teacher since meeting her. I joined her yoga immersion program and I am so glad and grateful that I did. I was able to deepen my practice of yoga, on and off the mat. I love Robin's teachings, as she teaches yoga way beyond the postures and practice on the mat or during a session. To be able to carry those teachings into the every day life is a blessing and a way to live that I will never forget. Highly recommended!
