Tuesday, August 13

7:00am Rise and shine we’re heading to the beach! Gather with your fellow travelers at Capitol Tours office on Leaphart Road to prepare for departure to Johns Island at 7:30am.

10:30am Arrive in Johns Island where we will board the Pirate Lady boat that will take us to Botany Island for our shelling adventure at 11:00am. Cruise along Bohicket Creek and enjoy the views of the shrimp boats at Cherry Point, the mansions on the waterfront, the historic Yacht Club in the Town of Rockville, and keep an eye out for dolphins and migrating birds. The boat is covered, however, on the island, where we will be shelling, does not offer any shade. Dress comfortably and bring a hat, sunshades, sunscreen, and insect repellent with you. While on the boat, enjoy a boxed meal from Panera Bread (or similar).

1:00pm Once back at the dock, board the motorcoach and continue to Stono Market & Tomato Shed Café for fresh produce and other delectable delights.

2:15pm  Time to travel back to West Columbia.

Great trip!! Our guide Mr. Al Miller was wonderful, learned so much about the Gullah/Geechee culture. The International African American Museum was very educational although for me a little heart-wrenching at times. Enjoyed lunch on the waterfront also. Thanks Capitol Tours for the trip!
