We begin our journey in Ayutla, considered the “gateway” to La Mixe. Our first day includes a hike and a visit to a sacred cave. Later, we’ll try a unique ritual dish, the “Mä'ätsy” which is usually prepared before the harvest season, to honour maíz abundance and chase away hunger.

Ritual Gastronomy (B,L,D)
We will explore the lush countryside and visit a family of pulque producers: a gorgeous walk through the flowery mountains to harvest the aguamiel directly from the agave before returning to their home for a rustic lunch where we will try the different variations that are only made in the region from this sacred drink. We continue our journey deeper into the sierra and arrive in Totontepec, the cradle of the best musical composers in the region.

Waterfalls Hike (B,L,D)
Today we explore the natural biodiversity of Totontepec and we’ll hike our way up to discover a stunning waterfall where we can refresh ourselves by drinking the beautifully fresh mountain water. Afterwards, we’ll have lunch and we’ll learn about native maíz and we’ll prepare our own tortillas!

Dear Sofia and Pablo, We wanted to thank you for organizing this special trip for us. What was really key for us is your efficiency and proactivity during the trip.
