SLOVAKIA
Slovakia is a small and colorful country in Central Europe. We will be predominantly cycling in the mountainous north.
Northern Slovakia is one of Slovakia's most physically spectacular areas with the most significant ski resorts in the country especially in the High Tatras, Low Tatras and Lesser Fatra mountains.
The mountains and national parks are something of a wonderland for wildlife and visitors alike as the whole area is mountainous and marvellous. Enjoy beautiful valleys, rivers, streams and hills of Fatra and Tatra
In the 9th century the first Slavic state – Great Moravian Empire was established. Slovakia then became part of the Hungarian kingdom, later the Habsburg empire. Then, In 1918 Czechs and Slovaks created the independent state. Czechoslovakia. In 1993 Slovakia became independent.
Slovakia has many folklore traditions, from music and dance ensembles, to handicrafts, open-air markets and festivals. Slovakia is filled with gothic churches, medieval towns, macabre torture inventions, as well as majestic mountains and looming castles along bucolic rural landscapes.
Its a beautiful part of Europe, often missed because of its size, and hidden away, but its well worth a visit.
