About this trip

Travel aboard the M/V Valentina to the Socorro Islands! Known as a hot spot for sighting giant Pacific manta rays, populous schools of fish, and schools of sharks - the Socorro Islands are a diving haven for creature spotting divers and adventure divers alike.

Socorro, San Benedicto and Roca Partida are three volcanic islands that make up the Revillagigedo Islands, more popularly known as Socorro. Located 250 nautical miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, it takes 24 hours to travel to this magnificent area. The M/V Valentina liveaboard trips to Socorro, San Benedicto, and Roca Partida are beautifully unique. These sites are best known for the wonderful encounters with Giant Pacific Manta Rays, where the mantas come to the divers and are happy to stay throughout entire dives.

If that's not enough in Socorro, there are up to ten species of sharks including whale sharks, silkies, silver tips, white tips and sometimes tiger sharks! Dolphin encounters are always thrilling and we will be diving the region during an annual migration of humpback whales that will be there to breed and calve. Divers may also observe many different behaviors at cleaning stations. Bottlenose dolphin, wahoo, tuna, marlin and smaller creatures like eels, nudibranchs and octopi are just some of the other critters that call Socorro "home".

The M/V Valentina is a 130ft luxury yacht with a 20-person maximum occupancy with a crew who put the safety and comfort of their divers as a top priority. Previous Dolphin Scuba divers have loved relaxing in between dives in the Deluxe Suites or topside on the different decks. After feasting your eyes and hearts on the sights seen below the waves, you will feast onboard the Valentina on cuisine crafted by first class chefs!

Each Deluxe Suite is equipped with its own air conditioning and bathroom facilities. Dives are made from tenders and the entire operation has been thoughtfully designed with divers in mind.

Notable Dive Sites

ROCA PARTIDA

A huge reef right in the middle of the open ocean is Roca Partida. The drop off of the reef wall is 230-265ft (70-80m). A large flock of black jacks, mantas, and silvertip sharks can be spotted. This is a dynamic big creature point with a school of  hammerhead sharks covering your view while whale sharks and tiger sharks could be swimming around you. It takes approximately 6 hours by ship from the San Benedicto Island. The rock which stuck out from the sea surface becomes the nest building place for giant trevally and others. The voyage to this point is very weather pending because it is right in the middle of the open ocean.

CABO PEARCE – SOCORRO ISLAND

It is a point in the Socorro Island. Here, you dive around the sea mount that stretches towards the open sea. This is a point with multiple encounters with big creatures such as Bottlenose Dolphins, Hammerhead Sharks, and Mantas. Continuous exciting scenes with other big creatures such as Galapagos Sharks and Silver Tip Sharks will leave you breathless. A predation scene of the Manta may be seen around these points. You often see the Humpback Whales breathing here as well.

EL CANYON – SAN BENEDICTO ISLAND

The point that large mantas wander about. A large Manta reaching 4m fin tip to fin tip or a Black Manta circling over you is just breathtaking and you cannot keep your eyes off of them. You may hear Humpback whales singing in the distance, and lucky divers can even meet the Humpback Whales underwater. It is a point at Sun Benedict Island having the report of romantic encounter with Whale Shark as well.

EL BOILER – SAN BENEDICTO ISLAND

A point in the Sun Benedicto Island. A submerged large sea mount rises from the bottom of the sea. The sea mount drops down to around 165ft (50m). The point is known for spotting Mantas, and migratory fishes such as Big Eye Jack, Greater Amberjack, and Black Jack. Hammerhead Sharks and Bottlenose Dolphins also give you a visit to swim along. You never know with what you can encounter. A large flock, over 100, of Yellow Fish Tuna passed right in front of our eyes when we went for a media shooting.

Wonderful trip!! Rick was a terrific trip leader - energetic, creative and inclusive. So much fun! Beqa is a lovely resort - simple, clean, comfortable rooms. Good food! The diving is spectacular. Tigers, Bulls and Black Tips, oh my!! Next opportunity, go on this trip… you won’t regret it!

I thought this was an excellent trip. One leg to Fiji was nice. The staff at the hotel and the Dive Master’s were excellent. The food at Beqa lagoon resort was excellent as well. The diving was solid and the shark experience was fantastic.

This was an amazing experience. The staff was top shelf; very friendly, accommodating, and supportive. I cannot speak highly enough of them. The only 2 issues with this resort were the ponds around the bungalows, and the bus ride to and from the airport to the docks. The bus ride was horrible because of the seats in the bus, They were small and cramped. There was no padding to the seats and it was like sitting on plywood. There was no room between the seats, so you had to regular stand in the bus to get any relief. It would be better to take multiple vans than this horrific bus. The ponds around the bungalows was a horrible breading ground for mosquitos. The ponds were green and covered with algae. They were ugly and unpleasant. They need to be cleaned and filtered to prevent the mosquito problem. I was really disappointed with this problem. Simple maintenance and filtration would prevent this issue. The SCUBA team was excellent. They were attentive to the divers' needs. Improvement would be better communication while under the water between the diver master and the divers. Too many times the dive master would just swim off and not check on the status of the divers, including air pressure. We had to check with each other to make sure we were doing okay. The night dive was good. I would like to see doing a different location when multiple night dives occur. We did the same dive location both nights. For the price, an afternoon dive (or 3 or 4 tanks total per day) should be included. There is really nothing to do on the island, so more dives would be appropriate. The food was generally good. Breakfast was spot on each day. Lunch was good, with a variety of choices. Dinner was typically good, but generally the meats were overcooked, hard and dry. Simple changes to the process would correct this. My bungalow was fantastic. It was clean and comfortable, and the bed was really nice. Water pressure was low, and the hot water would kick on and off due to a pump issue. I slept great each night. Unfortunately, due to the mosquito issue described above, I could not sit out on the patio and enjoy that. The mosquitos were too invasive. The shark dive was fantastic. The dive crew was alert and attentive to the sharks and kept us safe. I would do this trip again.

Had a great time. The staff went out of their way to make our experience the best it can be. The vessel was not as clean as I remember it. Could use a head to toe cleaning. However the food and staff were great.

As usual the service at Atlantis was exceptional. The Barista making the specialty coffees in the morning stunned everyone! The Dive Staff were very helpful assisting anyone with small difficulties. Always smiling and asking if there was anything they could do make things better! My hat comes of to all of the well trained staff on their diligent efforts to make our stay the most memorable ever. The abundance of turtles was icing on the cake.
