South Algeria 5 Day Expedition 2024
Visit the desert in the deep South of Algeria to learn about ways of life in this harsh, but beautiful part of the World.
DATES AND ITINERARY:
Please note: the itinerary and sights may change depending on local conditions and is meant to give you a general idea about what we will see during our time there.
Catch the 5.30AM flight from Algiers to Djanet arriving at 09.05AM.
Upon arrival in Djanet we will be picked up at the airport and drive to In Djarren canyon (south east of Djanet about 180km 4 hours) to explore the dunes and rock formations in the area.
We will spend the night camping in the dunes.
In the morning we will drive from In Djarren, along a scenic route that connects wadis and canyons. The journey offers a captivating educational experience, featuring intricate rock art depicting giraffes and elephants at In Ahar. The excursion concludes with a visit to Moula Naga in the evening.
We will leave our desert camp to visit Tin Tekak and Moula Naga.
In Tehak we drive through the heart of the white plains soaked in sunshine and bordered by brown hills. Picnic and free afternoon to stroll freely in this magical setting
One of the highlight of this day will be to explore the Tin Merzouga dunes. We will drive from Tin Tehak to Tin Merzouga. There we will experience the enchantment of Tadrart with its awe-inspiring dunes that shift in hue and towering rock formations resembling abandoned ships or grand castles.
After traveling through Tegharghart canyon, we head back to Djanet. On the way, make a stop at the famous engraving of the "Crying Cow" located south of Djanet, which we will reach by late afternoon. In the afternoon we will check into our hotel to have some rest and freshen up for our onwards journey.
Before midnight, around 11pm on April 22nd we will be transported to the airport to catch the 12.45am flight back to Algiers, arriving Algiers at 03.00am on April 23rd.
If you would like to stay behind in the South, you are more than welcome to catch a later flight. Otherwise, by now, you probably have gotten some new friends who you could travel with after the trip is finished, in Algeria or elsewhere in the World.
