About this trip

Off the coast of the Southern Baja Peninsula in Mexico, a rare event takes place. Thousands of Striped Marlins aggregate in search of their next meal. This is a rich pelagic area, where you can find different species throughout the year. Rarely visited by divers until a few years ago, this is a good place to see bait balls, bill fish and other species. Anything can happen in this pelagic playground.

We will start our trip in La Paz and take our private shuttle for a 3-4 hr ride north to a fishing community that since a few years ago started to focus on ecotourism. This is a remote area still not very popular to divers with fantastic opportunities for pelagic encounters.

Striped Marlin (Kajikia audax) unlike other marlin species will school to hunt, just like sailfish do. We will spend 5 days looking for marlins as well as other pelagic species in the open ocean.

To maximize your chance of interaction we take small groups. This animals move very fast and we will be getting in and out of the water throughout the day.

I had such an incredible experience on this trip - well organized, incredible whale encounters, fun group, perfect way to explore this part of the world. They also really understand the needs of photographers and cater well to helping you get the best shots possible while in and out of the water. I highly recommend this tour company and will definitely join them for another adventure in the future.

Nomad (Chris and Poncha) always does an impeccable job organizing trips that combine adventure and rare experiences with attention to detail and making sure guests are comfortable and enjoying themselves. This wasn't my first expedition with them and won't be the last!

I've been with many expedition companies before and this one is top notch. We requested a private expedition to have an attempt to be able to see the orcas. They were very accommodating with our request and patient with our questions. The casita we stayed in was fantastic and convenient. Directions were clear. For the expedition itself, we had 2 days on the water. The first day, we immediately found a large, friendly fever of mobula rays. The captain was very attentive and navigated us so we could get into the water with them and also for us to take good topside photos of when they were jumping. On the 2nd day, they got reports that orcas were spotted way south so we went far south and finally found the orcas and had a great, long, and private encounter with a pod of 3 orcas including a baby. The captain somehow spotted 2 mating turtles also from very far away. The company is also very conscious about environmentalism and having respectful interactions with the sea life. I cannot say enough great things about the owners, Irena and Chris. I look forward to doing another adventure with them again in the near future!
