Suriname is located on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America and is located in the Guianan endemic zone. The food is good and the people very friendly. If you have never been to South America before, this trip to Suriname will open your eyes to the beauty and diversity of birds in South America.
Suriname is extremely diverse with a Dutch flair and language to the culture. The capital Paramaribo is crowded with old wooden buildings and colonial architecture and is perfect for a walk to enjoy the Caribbean atmosphere of this tiny country.
The diversity of habitats means a great list of birds that we can see during our tour. Tropical forest predominates in the center of the country with mangroves bordering the coastline and grassy savannas in the south. Although rarely visited by birders from the USA, over 700 birds have been observed in Suriname and we hope to see over 300 of these in our 10-day trip. We hope to see such iconic birds as the Capuchinbird, Crimson Topaz, Crimson Fruitcrow, Pompadour Cotinga and even Harpy Eagle. Our accommodation will be comfortable and convenient to the best birding spots across the north-central Suriname.
Our 13-day tour will give us great insight to this small and friendly, bird-rich country.
