What is the West Africa Health Care Assessment Mission (HCAM)?
The project is designed as an introductory mission to Africa for doctors, nurses, administrators, other health care workers, medical students and anyone with an interest in Global Health and healthcare in Africa. The mission is also designed to introduce the participant to the culture of the 2 host countries and its impact on health. The West Africa Health Care Mission is an exploration mission that draws on the expertise of The African Cultural Exchange in fostering professional and cross-cultural interactions between counterparts all around the continent of Africa. These partnerships provide the framework for continued relationships that lead to two-way benefit and participants often gain insights into managing an array of problems faced in their own settings. These partnerships promote the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-17) of creating Global Partnerships for sustainable development to promote health system strengthening. Participants also gain cross-cultural experience that is invaluable in understanding immigrant population health care issues in the U.S.
