About this trip

Join your Compass Pointe friends for a day of history, architectural gems, shopping and dining in the scenic historic riverfront town of New Bern.  The day includes two guided tours, one by trolley and one on foot.  The tour of Tryon Palace and its formal gardens is a living history tour with costumed interpreters.  The narrated Trolly Tour recounts the fascinating historical and architectural details of the former royal capital.  In between tours, there is time for lunch on your own as well as time for exploring unique shops, galleries and enjoying the fiberglass bear sculptures.     New Bern was settled by Swiss and German immigrants who used the name "bern" meaning bear in old German for their new city.  The bear is the city's mascot with bear flags and statues featured throughout town.  You will also have time to sample "Brad's Drink" aka Pepsi at the Birthplace of Pepsi Museum.

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

AMAZING TRIP! We felt that we were treated like royalty ~ special smiles and lots of great adventures by Patty! The bus ride (with Donnie) was smooth & comfortable; Patty even provided yummy snacks. The hotel accommodations were VERY good and we had easy access to the city in the evening. Thanks for so many beautiful memories! The Edwards

This trip was flawless from beginning to end. Patty was very thorough in planning this delightful trip to Greenville SC. I can’t wait to travel with Trips By Patty again on future getaways! Thanks very much Patty, Kathy & Donnie our amazing bus driver! Sincerely, Maria Kowalski

We had a great time. The bus ride was comfortable, the dinner was good and the show was fun. I made a couple new friends along the way. What an easy way to navigate an evening! Thank you so much.

We had a great time! Patty had very detail down pat and made sure everything was correct. We have been on other trips with her and have consistently enjoyed them all. Greenville was very special from start to finish. Highly recommend.

Great trip! Lovely little city. Winery & museum were highlights. Progressive dinner was a big disappointment: the appetizer was really just chips & dip, the pork chop was cold. Would be best to have substantial but smaller portions for each meal, as we had on the Charleston trip (fabulous food). I know the dates chosen were the only available , but for future trips, avoiding Mondays would be best (more museums open). The trip was just the right amount of time. Looking forward to returning in February for Hamilton!
