About this trip

While Saint Jean Pied de Port on the French side of the Pyrenees is the official starting point of the French Way, the most popular starting point is the town of Sarria, 115 km away from Santiago. It can be walked in one week and it gives you the opportunity to get the afficial Compostelana Certificate of pilgrimage on arrival to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

The last section of the French Way from Sarria to Santiago through the lush green rural Galicia is also where you have most chances to meet other pilgrims and where you can really feel the spirit of the Camino.

Day 1
Arrival in Sarria

Join the group in Sarria. With its Celtic origins Sarria was a major medieval centre for pilgrims. The ancient atmosphere can still be felt in the beatiful old quarter streets. Walk around town, getting our first stamps on our Pilgrims passport. We will enjoy a 3 course Welcome Dinner in town to get to know each other. Overnight Oca Duerming (or similar). If you would like assistance with getting from the airport to Sarria please ask us and we will assist you.

What an amazing experience for our first Camino. The whole trip was so well organised from the transfers to and from the airport, to our luggage being transferred to each nights accommodation. Our guide Miguel was amazing, he was so knowledgeable, fun and attentive. He made the whole trip interesting. I can’t rate the whole experience highly enough. Can’t wait to do our next Camino and I’ll definitely be using The Way Experience to arrange it.

I enjoyed the trip. Javier the leader had a good sense of humour and kept us all going

I had a great holiday and would highly recommend this company. Each person in the group was given the same attention and safety whilst cycling was top priority. The places we stopped at along the way for coffee, lunches and evening meal were excellent and good value for money. The transportation of luggage and bikes was very efficient. Having the option of the support vehicle if you needed a break from cycling was an added bonus and suited the needs, fitness of our group. A big Scottish thankyou and I hope to use this company again and already have passed on their details to others.
