The incredible popularity of the Emmy-nominated, HBO series "The Gilded Age" has renewed interest in the history of Newport, Rhode Island.
On this tour, we'll explore the colonial history of this coastal community, step into the real-world settings that inspired this popular series, and learn more about how Mrs. Caroline Astor transformed Newport from a quiet seaside community into one of the world’s most revered playgrounds of the rich and famous.
The afternoon will include a tour of two Vanderbilt residences — Marble House and the Breakers. These grand summer "cottages" were a symbol of the family's social and financial pre-eminence and reflect the opulent architecture and design of the Gilded Age.
We will then re-board the motorcoach for glimpses of the mansions along Bellevue Avenue before we take a break for exploration, shopping, and dining in downtown Newport.
