About this trip

Join The Overlook & Best of Times Travel on this wonderful patriotic program.  Experience the home that molds then men and women that protect our nation - West Point Military Academy.  Then we enjoy two additional historical sights - Home & Museum of the United States  longest- serving President (FDR) and the Vanderbilt Mansion both located in Hyde Park, NY

Here's a rundown of this wonderful program:

Day One: After an early morning departure we arrive at West Point Military Academy. Since its founding two centuries ago, it has accomplished its mission by developing cadets through extensive moral and ethical development. We begin with our professionally conducted, fully guided tour of the Academy. This is a riding tour aboard our coach with several stops included: Old Cadet Chapel rich in history, The Plain (where George Washington drilled the American forces – now the parade ground for the Academy) and Trophy Point (site of relics of wars dating back to the Revolution). This is the best way to experience this historic United States Military Academy.  After our guided tour we will arrive back at the welcome center for a self-guided tour of the Museum. Here we’ll view the oldest and largest diversified public collection of militaria in the Western Hemisphere.  Highlights also include some special collections of General Douglas MacArthur, George Patton and President Dwight Eisenhower (all graduates of West Point).  Enjoy lunch on your own this afternoon at your choice of the many restaurants within steps of the museum and welcome center.  This evening enjoy our comfortabel area accommodations for the night.  Following some time to freshen up enjoy our INCLUDED evening dinner.

Day Two: This morning enjoy our included breakfast at the hotel.  Then we board our coach heading to Hyde Park, New York where we will enjoy a visit and tour of  President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Home.  Home to the 32nd and longest-serving president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt returned to Hyde Park often, drawing on this place to renew his spirit during times of personal and political crisis. Explore the Roosevelt saga in the homes of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, the exhibits at the nation’s first Presidential Library, and over a thousand acres of gardens and trails.  Our final stop for the day is The Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site.  The estate illustrates a way of life modeled on the English country house and is unusual today because so few examples survive in the 21st century. More than a place to discuss the lifestyles of the rich and famous, the park offers a window into the philosophy of the American country house, the lives of its domestic staff, and its relationship to the surrounding community.  We depart late afternoon with supper on our own en-route home.

We had a great time. The turkey dinner was delicious and the show was great. Iam looking forward to Dolly and Kenny. We saw them a couple of years ago and they were great

Dinner was good. Wait staff outstanding! Atmosphere great! Show very disappointing. Band too loud overtaking Rod Stewart impersonator. Maybe it was intentional because he wasn’t very good at all. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to it Would not see again!

Good food, serving staff polite & efficient. Rod Stuart show (sucked) to say the least. We left during the show. Always been pleased with past shows (Nelson Twins / Texas Tenors etc) NOT this one.

This trip was epic! It was non-stop, going places, seeing new sights, meeting new people, even eating new food (Millers). Not a drop of rain. Our tour director, Kevin Treat, was so organized and definitely did not get flustered when meeting times had to be changed. We will DEFINITELY plan our next trip with Best of Times, which is a cut above all others. Thank you for wonderful memories!

1. The bus ride both ways was very good. The driver was great and what a skilled driver!!!!!! I dont know how he managed to get into that small entrance in Hudson without scraping the side of the bus. (He should not have had to maneuver like that. Hopefully next time they will find a more easily accessible spot for the people in Hudson.) 2. The food was very good. 3. I felt so bad for the performer. It was obvious he was in a lot of pain. But he muscled through it and did a great performance. I would see him again! 4. The only complaint was the table seating. Ridiculous to squeeze 10 people in a table built for 8. I noticed that a lot of the tables seated only 8 not 10. I also noticed that there was certainly room in the hall to add 2-3 more tables so we would not be hitting each other's elbows eating. I could not sit up to the table because of lack of space. I was sitting at least a foot from the table and trying to lean over to eat. Not at all pleasant. Before I would go down to that venue again, i will ask how many are seated at a table and then make a decision whether to go or not. That part was NOT a pleasant experience. Thanks for asking.
