After enjoying a restful night's sleep in a comfortable bed and a delicious breakfast, you'll  begin your tour by meeting your Siem Reap guide, who will accompany you for the next three days. Our guides are selected for their extensive local knowledge, excellent communication skills, and, most importantly, their pride and passion for their country. Our minibuses are designed for your comfort, offering spacious seating, air conditioning, and a steady supply of bottled water and cold towels to ensure your journeys are as pleasant as possible. 

Today's itinerary includes an opportunity to swim at Phnom Kulen, so we recommend bringing swimwear. The hotel can provide you with a towel. For your convenience, there are changing rooms available at the waterfall. These require a small fee of 2000 riel (approximately 50 pence).  

We'll first visit The Cambodia Landmine Museum and Relief Centre, Situated within Angkor National Park close to the Banteay Srey Temple complex, it presents a unique exhibition of landmines and other ordnance from Cambodia's turbulent past, emphasising the crucial role of mine clearance in the country.  On the way to the park, we have planned a couple of stops. First, visit a local village to see the preparation of their locally renowned steamed rice and coconut-filled muffins. Another stop includes a secret location that provides a stunning backdrop for photographs, showcasing the breathtaking scenery that awaits you.   

Next we visit Valley of 1000 Lingas. Located near the Siem Reap River in Cambodia, is an ancient archaeological site steeped in religious significance. This valley is renowned for its numerous lingas (phallic symbols) carved into the riverbed's sandstone, believed to date back to the 11th century under the reign of King Suryavarman I. These carvings, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, were thought to bless the waters flowing over them, ensuring fertility and prosperity for the land. Beyond the lingas, the site also features carvings of Hindu deities and motifs, making it a fascinating destination for both historians and spiritual seekers alike. The serene and somewhat mystical atmosphere of the Valley of 1000 Lingas offers a unique glimpse into the religious practices and artistic expressions of ancient Khmer civilization.  

Phnom Kulen National Park is home to one of Cambodia's largest and most spectacular waterfalls. Encircled by towering trees and massive rocks, it offers a secluded cove-like atmosphere. The waterfall cascades over two tiers into a serene pool, perfect for swimming. The park is also steeped in ancient history, housing a reclining Buddha statue amidst its verdant grounds.  Optional - The Floating Villages on the Shores of Tonle Sap Lake.   

June – February: If your visit falls between June and February, we'll have the opportunity to embark on a boat trip among the fascinating homes perched on the shores of Lake Tonle Sap. Witness the unique lifestyle of families living in tall stilt houses amidst lush forests, vibrant rice fields, and lotus blooms. The floating villages, with their rural boat communities, offer an unmissable experience. Enjoy lunch at a floating restaurant and explore the floating markets to purchase local goods.  

March – May: During March to May, the lake largely dries up, but the experience of visiting these rural communities remains enchanting. We'll meet locals, immerse ourselves in their way of life, and enjoy local desserts in their village, offering a glimpse into the resilience and beauty of Cambodia's rural heartlands.  

You'll be given the choice of visiting here either today or tomorrow depending on how you feel after your first days adventure 

Your Guide will pick you up nice and early for todays experience, Angkor Wat.

Experiencing the sunrise over Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world, is a bucket list favourite among travellers. The early start is unquestionably worth it, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that should not be missed. Angkor Wat is a revered Buddhist temple and the crown jewel of the Angkor Archaeological Park, serving as the gateway to the ruins of Angkor. This temple stands as a national icon and a source of immense pride for Cambodia, even featuring prominently on the national flag.  

Your guide, well-versed in the temple's history, can enhance your visit significantly. While there are many cafes nearby for breakfast and drinks, we strongly recommend opting for one of the local Cambodian restaurants instead of the more tourist-oriented options. Here, the coffee is exceptional and the food, very inexpensive and delicious.

Key Points Appropriate dress for religious site 

After breakfast we then visit Terrace of the Elephants. The Terrace of the Elephants is an integral part of the walled city of Angkor Thom, located within the Angkor Archaeological Park. This elevated platform was used by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII to observe grand ceremonies, public events, or parades of his victorious armies. The terrace derives its name from the numerous elephant carvings and their mahouts found on its eastern façade. Think of it as Cambodia's equivalent of Horses guards parade in London.   

Close by is The Victory Gate. Angkor Thom is accessible through five gates, with the Victory Gate situated to the northeast. This gate, second in usage only to the main entrance, led to the Royal Plaza and served as the return path for soldiers after their triumphs. Comparable to Beijing's Desheng Gate and Paris' Arc de Triomphe, the Victory Gate offers visitors a glimpse of distinctive sculptures. For those seeking adventure, climbing the Victory Gate provides a unique vantage point to view the statues adorning the walls on either side.  

Next, onto Bayon Temple. Bayon Temple, a remarkable Khmer Temple within Angkor Thom, stands out as the sole Buddhist shrine in a region predominantly featuring Hindu temples. Positioned at the heart of the ancient capital, Bayon is renowned for its distinctive large stone faces smiling serenely from 37 towers, visible on all four sides of the temple.  

Finally, Ta Prohm Temple! Ta Prohm, famously known as the 'Tomb Raider Temple' due to its feature in the Tomb Raider film, is among the most celebrated temples in Siem Reap. This temple has been preserved in the same condition as it was discovered, enveloped by dense jungle, evoking the sensation of stumbling upon a lost world. 

 After breakfast, your guide will transfer you from your hotel in Siem Reap to Cambodia's capital city, Phnom Penh. The journey, taking approximately five hours, promises comfort with air conditioning, bottled water, and cold towels available throughout. As you drive past local villages and towns, there will be ample to observe. We have arranged a couple of interesting stops along the way, allowing opportunities to eat and use the restroom.  

Stops include -  Spean Praptos – Kampong Kdei Bridge, the largest and most impressive of the ancient Khmer bridges, is celebrated for its historical significance and features on the local 5,000 riel banknote. Believed to have been constructed or significantly modified during the 12th-century reign of King Jayavarman VII, evidence suggests that the tradition of bridge building may have started even earlier. Today, it stands as a monument to the ancient Khmer Empire's architectural skill, with locals often paying respects to their ancestors through offerings and an annual celebration held on the bridge.  

Skun Spider Market. Known internationally as Spiderville, Skun hosts one of the world's most unique markets. While it might resemble other Asian markets at first glance, it specializes in a rather unusual delicacy: fried spiders. These snacks, some as large as a human hand, have made Skun a famous tourist spot. Here, amongst the fruit and vegetable stands, vendors sell trays laden with fried and spiced spiders, considered a delicacy in the region. A visit to Skun Market offers a daring culinary adventure. Please note, the restroom at the market requires a small fee of 500 riel (about 20 pence).  

Upon arrival in Phnom Penh and check-in at your new hotel, we will bid farewell to your Siem Reap guide. However, Phnom Penh awaits with another excellent guide for the remainder of your journey. You may choose to relax after the long drive or explore Cambodia's vibrant capital city. Your hotel's prime location makes visiting nearby attractions convenient, either on foot or by tuk-tuk. We highly recommend the riverfront area for its trendy restaurants or the Phnom Penh night market, known for its array of clothing and food stalls. 

From your luxury city hotel, you will be picked up in the morning by your new guide to experience Cambodia from a unique perspective. Dive into the heart of Phnom Penh's lively streets on an exhilarating Cyclo ride, a three-wheeled bicycle taxi, offering the best way to truly experience, smell, and feel the atmosphere of this dynamic city.  

Dress appropriately for religious site 

You'll have a brief stop off at Wat Phnom, standing on the city's only hill, is a prominent Buddhist temple and the tallest religious structure in Phnom Penh. It is a popular spot among locals who visit to pray for good luck and success. The temple also offers stunning views of the city and is surrounded by a picturesque garden.  

Your cyclo ride will end with a tour of The Royal Palace. The Royal Palace stands as one of Phnom Penh's most iconic landmarks and serves as the primary residence of the King of Cambodia. The complex includes the throne hall among other significant monuments, all within a beautifully constructed area. Highlights include the Silver Pagoda. Seasonal access may allow visits to the throne hall and several other royal buildings within the grounds.  

A minibus will then transport you to the National Museum of Cambodia. The National Museum of Cambodia, the country's largest and central museum, houses over 15,000 artifacts spanning various periods of Cambodia's history, displayed across different rooms. The museum is also known for its tranquil garden complete with fish ponds and a café, providing a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. 

Today, you will delve into a poignant chapter of Cambodia's history with visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (formerly known as S-21 Prison) and the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, more widely known as the Killing Fields. These sites stand as stark reminders of the brutal regime of Cambodia’s dictator, Pol Pot, who, from 1975 to 1979, orchestrated the genocide of 1.5 to 2 million people. This tragic period saw the loss of a quarter of Cambodia’s population at the time. While confronting Cambodia's dark past can be somber, it is an essential part of understanding the resilience and peaceful nature of its people today, fostering a deeper appreciation for their warmth and friendliness.  

The day is broken up with a trip to the Russian Market. Toul Tompoung Market Better known as the Russian Market, is arguably Phnom Penh's trendiest market and one of the city's largest. A treasure trove of goods awaits, from handmade wooden crafts, antiquities, and miniature Buddha statues to exotic fruits, vegetables, jewellery, and an eclectic mix of clothing. As you wander through the bustling aisles, you'll encounter a variety of knock-off products sporting familiar brand names. The market is renowned for its Khmer iced coffee, elephant pants, and grilled bananas. It earned the nickname "Russian Market" in the 1980s due to its popularity among Russian expatriates who were drawn to the exceptional bargains available. This visit offers a fantastic opportunity to engage in friendly bargaining and secure some unique finds at great prices.   

After a brief rest at your hotel, you'll be picked up at 4:45 PM by tuk-tuk and escorted to the riverside, where a boat awaits to take you on a splendid river cruise at sunset. Upon boarding, you'll be welcomed with a cocktail or mocktail, setting the tone for a relaxing and enjoyable journey. Throughout the cruise, you'll be well-cared for with a variety of food and drinks available. This river cruise offers a unique perspective of the city and provides a serene and memorable way to conclude your visit to Phnom Penh.  

Continue your night with a visit to Phnom Penhs night maket or one of the many bars on the riverfront. 

Your guide will help check you out of your Phnom Penh hotel, then take you to Silk Island.

Upon arrival in Kampot, your guide will assist with hotel check-in. The drive takes you to the coastal city of Sihanoukville, where you'll have the opportunity to grab a bite to eat before boarding a speedboat. The boat ride to Koh Rong, an island renowned for its stunning beauty, takes about 40 minutes.
