About this trip

Ready for a week of restorative yoga, exquisite food, and unique wine tastings on a farm in Tuscany?

Join Yogi Sadie and Chef Alice on a 200-acre farm in the foothills of the Apennine mountains in Northern Tuscany. Wake up to the Tuscan sun and a daily yoga session. Learn about the local wines and fresh flavors with cooking classes. Lounge around the natural, biopool and read a book during free afternoons. Spend the evening sipping local sangiovese while overlooking vineyards framing the views of the Magra Valley.

Our journey begins in Milan in the garden and restaurant of Alice and Danilo. The 5-course welcome feast starts what just may be the best week of eating of your entire life. We then travel out to our country retreat together. Nestled in olive groves and home to an endangered breed of mountain sheep, this is the perfect escape to the Italian countryside.

Our mornings start with yoga—the anchor of our retreat. Over the week, we’ll remove the crusty layers of stress, unlock chronic hip tension, and reset habitual slouches. With more energized postures and open senses, we will emerge ready to take in the full Italian experience.

After yoga, we’ll gather around the breakfast table for fresh fruit, homemade granola, yogurt, and rustic bread. European breakfasts always feel both decadent and wholesome. As we sip coffee, we’ll review our plan for the day. Some days we venture out for a hike led by a local guide, visit the sandy beaches in nearby resort towns, or walk to the next village to find the renowned pasticceria. Other days we stay back for Alice’s cooking classes where we roll up our sleeves to prepare the pasta for lunch or learn how to make the local hazelnut pastry.

After some afternoon downtime, we reconvene for a restorative yoga class. All activities are, of course, optional. You may prefer to spend a lazy afternoon lounging at the pool, exploring the art collection, or taking a nap under a novel.

As the sun dips toward the sea, we gather on the terrace for antipasti and wine tasting. Danilo leads our wine education as he uncorks bottles of Chianti, Sangiovese, and Prosecco, offers his signature tasting notes, and explains the regional viniculture traditions.

Sounds amazing, right? We haven’t even gotten to the best part: Alice’s food! With classic Italian preparations and plant-focused creativity, she tailors the menu for omnivores yet is sensitive to food restrictions. She forages local ingredients like forest herbs and mushrooms to create dishes that are filled with flavor, but are rarely heavy. There is no luxury like having your own personal chef for a full week.

What makes this trip special:

  • Plenty of yoga, excursions, and cooking classes balanced with enough time to take in the beauty of the region.
  • Relaxing into one spectacular location for the week. After you unpack your bags, you’ll sink into life in this magical place (and never want to leave).
  • You don’t have to figure anything out. With the research, planning, and logistics already done, you can sit back and soak it all in.
  • The people who come: food adventurers, travel enthusiasts, and yogis. The folks who show up to this retreat enjoy stretching their horizons—and their hamstrings. They have an appetite for authenticity and relish gathering around the table. Savoring this experience with other cool folks makes it especially delicious.

If you are ready to unwind, connect with old and new friends, stretch out the aches of daily life, nourish your belly as well as your soul, and live a week of la dolce vita, then this is the trip for you. This retreat was a total mind/body recharge with a gorgeous Italian backdrop. Yogi Sadie, Chefs Alice + Harriett, and Somm (and DJ!) Danilo created a magical week that was both full of everything - and nothing. Morning + evening stretch-outs, hikes and cooking lessons, plus time to let your mind rest and wander. The team dazzled us with lovingly made food and incredible wine, surpassing all expectations, with plenty of time to linger, laugh, chat, and savor during meals. An absolute treat!

Great food and location as always. I really appreciated the structure of the opening and closing circle at the beginning and end of the retreat. It's such a great way to show gratitude to the mighty crew of Sadie, Alice, Danilo and Harriet.
Sadie’s yoga is truly amazing and often accompanied by really good-hearted laughs. If you ask me what kind of yoga it is, I’d probably just be snarky and say ‘The good kind’. I have been practicing with Sadie as much as I can for over 15 years and all jokes aside, I’d say it is the kind of yoga backed by knowledge and science. Some truly well researched movement medicine for the modern computer age where we are all sit at a screen too much. She was the first instructor I remember asking “How’s everybody feeling today? Where does it hurt?” and be able to tailor the class to the immediate needs of the attendees on the spot. Her yoga isn’t about doing the same yoga pose over and over again. Instead it’s about resolving the issues of pain and discomfort that have walked into her class that day. I still carry the knowledge she dropped in class once about fascia after completing a human anatomy course. It’s helped me figure out healthy and realistic approaches to maintaining my own body. There was also a great mix of excursions to nearby Lake Orta for shopping, a 2 in 1 day to Cappellificio Cervo & Rapa Giovani for handmade artisan hats or a variety of alcohol to choose from at irresistible prices. And then finally we had a challenging hike with our amazing guide Pietro. Even though the hike started very late, due to the drivers getting lost on the way to the trailhead, Pietro stayed with the slowest group like we had all the time in the world. I particularly liked his tip on elongated symmetrical breathing of a 1:1 or 1:2 inhale vs exhale. It helped with the strenuous uphill and altitude that I always have difficulty adjusting to. It also helps when I am feeling anxious just being out in the world.

This retreat was a magical and meaningful week for me as I celebrated my 50th birthday. My group of friends--mostly women from childhood friendships, high school, grad school , and my neighborhood mom squad--booked out a week with Sadie and Alice. It was perfect: an opportunity to unwind, connect, and reflect on all these wonderful relationships in my life. The schedule was an ideal blend of structure and flexibility. Beautiful hikes were just a step away, every meal was exquisite, the yoga sessions were playful and effective. Alice, Danilo, and Aiko curated and educated us about the fabulous meals and wines while Sadie challenged us with lunges and squats. The location allowed us to truly get off the beaten path and explore the local small villages. Guitars around the fire, insightful tarot readings, visits to the local hat factory, and a parade of hundreds of sheep and donkeys filled out the itinerary, a great blend of flawless execution and spontaneity. What an incredible way to mark a milestone birthday!

Week 2 of the Retreat to Piedmont in September was special. This is the trip is rejuvenating! Seriously, the only decision you need to make during your journey is "do I want red wine or white wine?" The setting, the yoga, the food and wine, and the attention to detail and planning was phenomenal, and it was one of the best vacations I have ever taken. Sadie, Alice, Danilo and Aiko planned and executed a once in a lifetime experience for us. It felt organic, relaxing, engaging, and I could not recommend it more. It was made even more special because we were all together to celebrate our friend's big birthday in a most perfect way. Five stars! Highly recommend!
