Read the tour Itinerary summary below for more details.
Throughout the trip we will have the opportunity to dine at a wide variety of extraordinary restaurants (from casual street food to fine dining). While the tour offers many unique scheduled experiences, its casual structure also provides daily opportunities for guests to adjust the plans to match their interests and desired speed and intensity.
IDENTIFICATION ~ A valid passport is required.
ALTITUDE ~ Guatemala City: 4,921 ft ~ Flores: 449 ft ~ Tikal: 1,007 ft
WEATHER ~ We will be visiting the lowland jungle on the Caribbean side of Guatemala. The weather in the jungle can be described as warm and muggy. Flores will be breezier and less muggy. Temperatures will range from daily highs around 89f to lows around 75f. Because it is the jungle, there are good chances of rain.
TRANSPORTATION ~ Our flights between Guatemala City and Flores will be on small commercial commuter planes. We will travel between Flores and Tikal in a van. We will travel by boat around Lake Petén. In town and in Tikal we will walk. There is an option to add a helicopter ride.
PHYSICAL EXERTION ~ Moderate Exertion (3 of 5) – This tour consists of casual walking on uneven streets with moderate slopes. Uneven steps and stairs are common throughout town. The excursions to Tikal and El Mirador require much more physical exertion including lots of climbing without rails and walking on dirt paths.
MEDICAL FACILITIES ~ The full range of medical care is available in Guatemala City, but medical care outside of the city is limited. Guatemala’s public hospitals frequently experience serious shortages of even the most basic medicines and equipment. Care in private hospitals is generally adequate for most common illnesses and injuries, and many of the medical specialists working in them are U.S. trained and certified. While in Tikal and El Mirador, emergency services are nonexistent and basic services are rudimentary.
The arrival day of the Guatemala Tikal tour adjoins the departure day of the Guatemala Antigua & Atitlán tour (25-07-02-GT-AAA), making it easy to do them together and receive an extra night of accommodations at no additional cost. Simply book both tours and we'll take care of combining the packages and reserving your extra night at the hotel.
The tour must “make” with a minimum of 4 people by March 2, 2025.
