In 1990 Guatemala gives a big step into conservation, creating the biggest protected area in Guatemala (The Maya Biosphere Reserve). With an extension of 21,602.04 km2, the reserve occupies 19% of the national territory. Inside the reserve we have 4 National Parks, 4 Biotopes, 1 Natural Monument, 1 Buffer zone and 1 multiple uses zone. The reserve was created to combine the conservation and the sustainable uses of the natural and cultural resources inside the area.
Tikal and Uaxactún are in the nuclear zone, the importance of the region is being the habitat of a big diversity of wildlife. Every year hundreds of migratory and resident birds spend part of their life is this forest. Our goal in the tour is to learn, value and appreciate the biodiversity of the forest and the birds that live inside of it, your visit will contribute to the conservation of the natural areas of Guatemala and the sustainable development of the communities in the region.
