About this trip

Our Part Two Training is a 9 day immersion to focus on integration and embodiment supporting both the practical and sacred aspects of this work. The Ghana Immersion is an All Black Cohort.

What People Can Expect

I have been dreaming up this “training” for years now. I say “training” because truly it is so much more than that. This is a ceremony, an initiation into authentic traditional sovereign birth work. You will arrive at least 2 days before so that you can have time to travel, get settled and, rest. Then, on the morning of December 11th we will begin.

We will cover 4 pillars:

The Art of Holding Space

Tactile Support

Ceremony

Herbs and Nutrition

Each day, we will focus on each pillar and move through the self, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum throughout our time together. We will begin with the self, then move through pregnancy, birth, and wrap up with postpartum. This isn't a lecture based teaching experience. Instead, I will be incorporating story telling, role playing, demonstrations, and our bodies throughout our time together. I am extremely intentional about how I deliver this curriculum. This isn't a carbon copy, cut and paste outline. That's not how I learned to be a birth worker, therefore it's not how I teach.

What Is The Learning Environment Like?

The learning environment is engulfed in Spirit. We will move between urban and more rural spaces throughout our time.
No matter where we are physically, we build an intentional container that cultivates a safer space for people to feel nurtured within their learning process. This is a space for you to feel held and explore what it feels like to listen to your self and meeting your needs. This is a space for our hearts to open up and soften, to get inspired, spark our creative nature and conscious connection with our Ancestors.

What You Are Responsible For

Your flight, visa, vaccines/exemption forms, having your own emergency fund money, navigating currency exchange and cash, toiletries, transportation before and after designated pick up and drop off locations on 12/11 and 12/21.

You are responsible for your own actions and energy during our time together. We'll be in a group setting and it is your responsibility for you to take care of your own needs so you can be present and show up as your most authentic self. Please keep in mind that we will be covering topics that may be activating and stimulating and unlike within our online training we will be witnessed by strangers at that. This may bring up moments of feeling extremely vulnerable so please be mindful of your tools, your capacity and your resources.  You are also responsible to respectfully communicate any needs that come up before or during the retreat. Please note that we are curating an experience for the collective, this means that we will be working together to unsure that everyone feels safe, heard and seen. It is our highest intention that we also move with integrity, compassion and understanding.

December is the busiest month of the year in Ghana so we move with a tighter weave. Please read the community agreements closely when you secure your spot and are invited to complete a few forms.

Can I Bring My Family?

Yes, your children are welcome!
Yes, childcare is provided! (cost is based on the number of children and ages)
Yes, your family is welcome! (additional cost for each person)

Cancellation Policy

When you invest in yourself, you are investing in the collective. The deposit is non-refundable because your monetary commitment is an act of devotion to the abundance, prosperity and intentional living that we are affirming for healers, wisdom keepers, and sacred entrepreneurs of all kinds. Your investment sustains the Sumi’s Touch Team (mothers of color, healers and creatives) and facilitates conscious discernment around where we are hosted, who is pouring their energy into our food, providing safe passage, etc.

If for some reason you are not able to attend the Part 2 Immersion you have selected due to unforeseen circumstances or you are more than 7 days late on a payment, your reservation will be given the next person on the waitlist. Up to $500 of any additional installments can be applied to a Sumi’s Touch Offering within one calendar year according to our discretion.

Just like in birth, when you know, YOU KNOW and divine order unfolds to support that knowing. We as birth workers prepare for a multitude of possibilities in holding the container of birth, so please consider the following as you commit to this act of healing and expansion for yourself:

  • Passport: is it up to date and clear of expiration for 2025 for you and loved ones traveling with you?
  • Visa, air travel & proof of vaccination: we have a travel agent for ease of consultation, but if you decide to book these on your own, please be mindful of what is required.
  • Once you pay your deposit (50% of the total) we can adjust the payment plan to suit you. We encourage you to make a simple flier on Canva, including ways folks can send you money and share your ask on social media and personal networks. If you choose a GoFundMe, Kickstarter, or some other platform, please calculate the fees associated with it and build that into your grand total ask.

Available Add-Ons

Detty December (Shared occupancy)
$4,000
Available until November 11, 2025
Deposit: $750

Each year the children of the continent travel from near and far to come back home in December. This tradition has been ongoing for generations for those who work and live abroad or away from home. In Ghana, this tradition has grown to reach out to the children of the diaspora, allowing many people to have their Sankofa trip. Sankofa is an Akan derived word that translates to " To go back and get it". The people of Ghana have truly made something special with many curated experiences, celebrations, festivals, and cultural immersions offered all over the country.

While Detty December is focused on partying, festivals, and clubs....I want to show you all a much more nuanced side of what Detty December has to offer. Many moons ago I lived in Ghana and fell deeply in love with the land, the people, the food, the culture. It was like my Ancestors spoke more clearly to me, my skin was glowing, my dreams were more vibrant, and everywhere I looked I saw people who felt eerily familiar while I was there. For years I have been asked to bring others with me to Africa.....and now, the time has finally come! While I've been to various places...Ghana came through to me to be the first land for us to connect with.

We will for sure have fun and turn up but we will also turn inwards. We will visit historical sites like the Black square, The last baths, and the slave dungeons. We will learn about the local gastronomy and how to prepare Ancestral foods and drinks. We will have an Ancestor ceremony to give thanks to those who came before and acknowledge that they NEVER imagined we would be able to return. We will connect with the local rhythms and learn traditional cultural dances. SO you see, this will be dynamic and transformational!

This family friendly curated experience is perfect for those who want to experience true Ghana! I have been building and connecting with loved ones for many moons to gift you the opportunity of truly having the most transformational experience of your life!!

It's Soooooo good that last year's cohort made a pact to all come back!! It's not just another tour, it's an authentic immersion and homecoming for you and your family!

We will have activities for the children and child care available for non-child friendly activities such as the slave dungeon (up to each parent's discretion) and the club. We will also have activities for the youth to do that will help them too learn the culture and the land that they are on.  For example, last year we had a nature based arts class daily for them. We plan to do the same and more this year!

Additional Adult (shared occupancy)
$750
Available until November 11, 2025
Deposit: $75

This option is for those who are sharing either a King or Queen bed with another adult. This payment must be completed before the payment deadline of 11/04/25 along with the registration fee associated with the room. This price covers the accumulative additional cost of food, entrance/participation fees, transportation, materials, etc.

Child Fee
$500
Available until November 11, 2025
Deposit: $50

This option is for those that will be bringing a child who needs their own plate of food, own seat for transportation, requires entrance fees for excursions/experiences, and who needs childcare. This cost is per child and will cover the accumulative cost of their time sharing space with us. The child care fee is mandatory even if another caretaker will be present. This also affords the opportunity for the child care providers to be used at any time if needed. We have found that it is impossible to separate the children from one another and will have many activities that we want each child to feel free to participate in.

Early arrival
$500
Available until November 11, 2025
Deposit: $100

For those who wish, we can accommodate you for our recommended early arrival time. Don't worry about trying to figure the details, we got you covered! This will include transportation from the airport and accommodations. We can also connect you with recommendations for the following:
