Itinerary

Achupallas - trescruces
Hike in the andes Mountains

Day 1. After leaving from Quito or any another city or place of Ecuador; we must normally arrive to Achupallas parish. It is a small town in the middle of the South Andes in Ecuador. It is exactly here where we start normally the Trek in the Inca Trail and in addition, we meet with the horse men to carry all the stuff during the 3 days. We are going to walk for about 5 or 6 hours this day and rest in front of Laguna Tres cruces in an altitude of 4.240 masl (13910 feet). In this day, this Amazing Trek in the Inca Trail will start at 11am and we will take with us just a small bag with water, packed lunch and waterproof clothes. Dinner will be prepared by our staff in the tent.

We had a great day with Kathy Rea horseback riding and hiking! The horse we rode were very well cared for and very domesticated. I can be a little skittish of horses but I never once felt like I was not in control. We saw wild horses, Andean fox, condors and many other beautiful birds. The horse back ride was a relaxing 1 hour and it was slow enough to really take in the beautiful Andean landscape. Then came the hike. We took the “hard” way up. It’s not an overly long hike but it’s a a pretty steep incline and the terrain is mostly gravel. Being “flat landers” the altitude was the hardest part. Kathy was very patient with us. We then had a lovely meal to finish the day!

From messaging about different options to booking through to a pululahua crater hike and then equator line museum it was great experience. A fabulous walk down into the crater (1 mile down) then two hilly hikes and back up to the rim. So glad we had messaged with Patricio before booking as he suggested the perfect trip for us. Lovely lunch provided. Marcial was a great guide plus a sweet dog we named Bobi who walked the whole day with us. Then we went to the equator line museum which was informative and fun. Would totally recommend
