Your days will be filled with exciting and meaningful tasks. You might be:
Options for divers
if you are an experienced diver with good buoyancy skills then you may be able to join the research team for dives when the need arises. This could be coral restoration or the removal of ghost nets.
Since dives are not a guaranteed part of the programme, you always have the option to rent equipment from the nearby dive centre during your free time in the morning or afternoons.
The cost is approximately Rm120 per shore dive and Rm150 per boat dive (including equipment)

Life at the beach camp is simple yet rewarding. You'll be living in close quarters with nature, sharing meals prepared together in a basic open-air kitchen, fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie.

Project Aim
The primary focus of the Marine Camp project is the monitoring and relocation of turtle nests on the island, and coral rehabilitation
Weekly Program*
The itinerary for this trip includes a series of exciting activities spread over seven days. Project work begins on a Sunday and ends on a Saturday
The different surveying and monitoring tasks to be completed include (amongst others):
- Turtle Workshop – Triangulation and relocation practice
- Nightly beach patrols for nesting turtles.
- The relocation of any nests not laid on Turtle Bay
- The monitoring of hatching turtle nests on Turtle Bay
- Coral ecology and assessment
- Casual observations Depending on the time of year there may be more of a focus on nesting or hatching turtles as well as additional specific research projects. However, nightly patrols will continue throughout the year.
*This schedule is a representation of a typical week but may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather.
There are also several opportunities to listen to and be involved in presentations about the marine environment and the species found around Lang Tengah.
Occasionally we will also receive visits to our Research Station from external guests, and volunteers are expected to assist with these as required.
Snorkeling forms a core activity of camp life and you will likely be spending at least 1-2 hours a day in the water.
There are opportunities for jungle trekking around the island to various viewpoints and snorkeling spots, or nature walks. For kayaking and scuba diving, volunteers are required to pay the equipment rental fee to the nearby resort’s water sports or diving centre.
You can extend your volunteer stay by one week for Rm 1800
