About this trip

Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park is home to some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. Rising from the volcanic depths of the Sulu Sea in the western Philippines, these magnificent atolls encompass an astonishing diversity of marine life. Dolphin Scuba Center returns to Tubbataha season after season for the wildlife, the palette of colors, and the visibility!

The reefs of Tubbataha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is high-voltage diving. The walls drop off into forever, and you will encounter turtles, sharks, mantas, big schools of fish, and whale sharks. For those divers who prefer vivid color, we will also be diving protected and healthy coral gardens. Visibility is often 200 feet. The park is an underwater sanctuary where nature can thrive. Tubbataha is the Philippines' only marine natural park, and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - a place of global importance - it is being preserved for generations to come.

From majestic whale sharks to elusive seahorses, Tubbataha supports an unparalleled variety of marine creatures. Colorful reef fish crowd corals growing in the shallows while sharks and manta rays haunt the steep drop-offs to the open sea. Aboard the well-appointed liveaboard, the Atlantis Azores, 16 divers will dive in comfort. The Azores boasts 7 standard cabins and one master suite, which is available at an additional cost. Two tenders serve the main boat, carrying divers to and from our dive sites. The Atlantis Azores dive yacht also has full camera facilities for those photographers wishing to take advantage of the colorful scenes playing out beneath the waves.

Where We Dive

Northern End of North Atoll

Fissures and crevices lead into this atoll where nurse and whitetip reef sharks can be found resting during the day. Small manta rays, stingrays and spotted eagle rays, together with numerous turtles, have all been spotted. The wall has huge gorgonian fan corals, soft corals and barrel sponges. Blacktip, whitetip and grey reef sharks can normally be seen patrolling here in numbers.

Southern End of North Atoll

Malayan, Wallstreet and Amos Rock are the pick of the dive sites. Fans of macro will enjoy these sites with Denise pygmy seahorses clinging to the sea fans. See scorpionfish, moray eels and even ghost pipefish. Don’t worry pelagic fans, you can still see huge dogtooth tuna, sharks and Spanish mackerel in the blue.

Northern Tip of South Atoll

Highlights include Black Rock, T Wreck and Eiger Wall. You will lose count of the number of green sea and hawksbill turtles in the area. Look out for marble stingrays in the sand. Eagle rays often cruise by, and expect to see large grouper and giant trevally.

Southern End of South Atoll

This area is known for its lighthouse and is home to famous dive sites Delsan Wreck and Black Rock. Hammerheads are the most prized sighting here as well as occasional whale sharks passing by. Look out for guitar sharks in the shallows.

Southern End of North Atoll

A gentle slope that is covered in superb untouched corals and ends with a wall covered with dramatic gorgonian fans where sharp-eyed divers can often spot pygmy seahorses. If there’s current, you’ll come across a wide variety of large fish, including narrow-barred Spanish mackerel, giant trevally, red snapper, napoleon wrasse and giant groupers.

You’re almost certain to see whitetip and grey reef sharks. Look out for manta rays, spotted eagle rays and both green and hawksbill turtles closer to the surface. Other fish that can be seen include rainbow runners, African pompano, angelfish, leaf scorpionfish, fire dartfish and, down deeper, decorated dartfish.

Jessie Beazley Reef

You can see schools of bumphead parrotfish munching on the corals. Watch out for inquisitive napoleon wrasse. The shallow reefs are full of colorful tropical fish like the regal angelfish and titan triggerfish.

I thought this was an excellent trip. One leg to Fiji was nice. The staff at the hotel and the Dive Master’s were excellent. The food at Beqa lagoon resort was excellent as well. The diving was solid and the shark experience was fantastic.

This was an amazing experience. The staff was top shelf; very friendly, accommodating, and supportive. I cannot speak highly enough of them. The only 2 issues with this resort were the ponds around the bungalows, and the bus ride to and from the airport to the docks. The bus ride was horrible because of the seats in the bus, They were small and cramped. There was no padding to the seats and it was like sitting on plywood. There was no room between the seats, so you had to regular stand in the bus to get any relief. It would be better to take multiple vans than this horrific bus. The ponds around the bungalows was a horrible breading ground for mosquitos. The ponds were green and covered with algae. They were ugly and unpleasant. They need to be cleaned and filtered to prevent the mosquito problem. I was really disappointed with this problem. Simple maintenance and filtration would prevent this issue. The SCUBA team was excellent. They were attentive to the divers' needs. Improvement would be better communication while under the water between the diver master and the divers. Too many times the dive master would just swim off and not check on the status of the divers, including air pressure. We had to check with each other to make sure we were doing okay. The night dive was good. I would like to see doing a different location when multiple night dives occur. We did the same dive location both nights. For the price, an afternoon dive (or 3 or 4 tanks total per day) should be included. There is really nothing to do on the island, so more dives would be appropriate. The food was generally good. Breakfast was spot on each day. Lunch was good, with a variety of choices. Dinner was typically good, but generally the meats were overcooked, hard and dry. Simple changes to the process would correct this. My bungalow was fantastic. It was clean and comfortable, and the bed was really nice. Water pressure was low, and the hot water would kick on and off due to a pump issue. I slept great each night. Unfortunately, due to the mosquito issue described above, I could not sit out on the patio and enjoy that. The mosquitos were too invasive. The shark dive was fantastic. The dive crew was alert and attentive to the sharks and kept us safe. I would do this trip again.

Had a great time. The staff went out of their way to make our experience the best it can be. The vessel was not as clean as I remember it. Could use a head to toe cleaning. However the food and staff were great.

As usual the service at Atlantis was exceptional. The Barista making the specialty coffees in the morning stunned everyone! The Dive Staff were very helpful assisting anyone with small difficulties. Always smiling and asking if there was anything they could do make things better! My hat comes of to all of the well trained staff on their diligent efforts to make our stay the most memorable ever. The abundance of turtles was icing on the cake.
