About this trip

Torino to Nice is an unforgettable moment in the mountains. This trip isn’t about speed, strength, or guts. It’s about a shared experience through a landscape where the sport of cycling, tradition of food and wine, and a relaxed living environment all converge over the course of 8 nights through the Maritime Alps. Torino to Nice is all about being on our bikes all day, enjoying the flow of the mountains, as we ride through the small villages that dot the landscape. We will stop for lunches on the top of mountains, and roll into our chosen destination for happy hour each afternoon. This Alps trip exposes some wonderful parts of historical Tour de France routes, while getting us off the beaten path for 7 days of cycling and enjoying the lifestyle of the French mountains.

Highlights

Our approach to the French Alps begins with night 2 in Susa, Italy. A wonderful town, centered around a mountain river in the heart of this village, we will enjoy drinks and dinner in the streets amongst this beautiful mountain community. Tracing the history and pedal strokes of former Tour de France routes will keep you inspired as we climb high into the Alps, and visit small ski villages throughout this 7 day trip. Our final day as we ride out of the Maritime Alps and into Nice, France is an unforgettable ride, as the mountains meet the ocean for our final evening on the Nice waterfront.

Food

Think of this trip in three parts: riding, dining, and lifestyle. As we traverse this route, we will soak up all three of these wonderful characteristics of the French way of life. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be enjoyed together, and either located at our hotel/lodge, or somewhere on top of a mountain, overlooking the Alps. We will not go hungry, and it's going to be magnificent!

Accomodations

The Cyclist’s Menu has discovered 6 different lodging options for the duration of this incredible 7 night trip. Each provides a unique experience for our group as we make our way from Torino back to Nice. We have chosen this route because the mountains we will ride through define the beauty of the landscape, and each lodging opportunity is ingrained in this wonderful culture of high mountain living.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival Day
Welcome to Nice(!) Shakedown Spin - 20 Miles, 1,500 feet elevation

Night 1 lodging: The AC Hotel - Nice, France

Welcome to Nice, France! We will meet all of you in the lobby of the AC Hotel around noon to say hello and grab your bicycle for our mechanic to build. You will have a few hours on your own to walk around, eat some lunch, jump in the pool or ocean(!), and settle into your rooms before we meet for our afternoon shakedown spin. Apéritif on the AC Hotel rooftop, overlooking the beautiful city and turquoise coastline. Dinner out to follow.

*TCM does not offer a shuttle from the Nice Airport because of the high volume of traffic and different landing times for everyone. It’s most efficient to jump in a cab and take the 18 minute trip and be dropped off at the AC Hotel in downtown Nice. We'll email a list of suggestions for guests planning to arrive early.

*Today, we will store any luggage/bike boxes that you will not need during our journey through the Alps in a special place at the AC Hotel.

The riding and routes are spectacular -- challenging but fun. The wide open vistas, endless sky, solid climbs, ripping descents, and dearth of cars make for epic gravel riding. The whole experience is well-organized with top notch food, guides, mechanics, re-supply, and great photos. There is real effort and care taken to ensure everyone is getting what they want out of the riding and routes, which I really appreciated. Very welcoming and friendly crew. Highly recommend.

What an amazing experience--better than I could have imagined. Heidi and Zander were thoughtful, gracious, friendly, fun hosts. The rides were a blast! I really appreciated the well-planned and organized support. I learned so much, riding with the super knowledgeable, friendly, expert guides: a special shout-out to Emily and Heidi, who coached me on gravel riding skills, and Noe, whose brain I picked on the next changes to make with my bike (and in what order to try them). It was fantastic not to be left to ride on my own, as I've become accustomed to doing with other tours. Heidi managed to give all of us the challenge and fun we were looking for, regardless of our skill levels. The ride snacks and meals were top-notch! Shannon and Zander were right there, on the spot, with what we needed. I felt like a pro rider, with the bike wash and lube service each day. I enjoyed getting to know the other riders, on the bikes and off. Our group as a whole felt very congenial and welcoming. Our room at the Stage Stop Inn was comfortable, clean, quaint, quiet, and convenient, a perfect place to wind down each night and prepare for the next day's adventure. I already want to come back for another gravel camp with Heidi and Zander and their crew!

Unforgettable day on the bike. Breathtaking landscape, the best gravel I’ve ever ridden, and flawless hospitality and guidance from Heidi and Zander. Every detail felt effortless, every moment a joy — simply the best day I’ve ever had on two wheels.
