Mateo, the trip guide, was a gem. Super positive, fluent English and a true love of what he does. The mostly downhill bicycle trip started high in the mountains and finished up on a scenic rail to trail route. Between segments was a marvelous hot spring spa with beautiful gardens where I watched hummingbirds dark among the flowered while I warmed back up from the cool wet ride. Really a perfect way to end my week stay in Quito.

Eric and our driver ,Cesar, took us up to 13000 feet and we proceeded to bike down a dirt (and rock) road to the Amazon. We stopped at the Papillacta Thermal Pools for a relaxing soak, then back up and down the other side of the mountain towards Quito. We finished with a lovely section on an old railroad grade that offered cool tunnels and lots of bird life. I am not an experienced mountain biker and Eric encouraged and helped me the whole way. Great day trip from Quito!
