One would say any trip to Italy is worth it - which is true but Puglia has this little extra. The heal of Italy, it is one of the least known areas for mass tourism – and we cannot be happier with that.
Whether it is because it is only now gaining in popularity so it is less traveled, or because of some truly unique villages.... honestly it doesn't matter.
What matters is that it offers a magnificent holiday destination, best enjoyed with a great love of yummy things, and a love for the sea. IT is a destination that we have just added to our trips because we had prepared it in 2018 - when all was ok in the world. It took a few years, and we can now happily bring it to you: a catered Puglia experience - exactly how we like it! Savory, charming, unforgettable, filled with stories and amazing producers...
PS: note that pictures are not reflective of the day's itinerary and are not in order.
Also note that the trip can be offered on a private basis - but reservations must be done 50 days in advance and price may vary based on availability, date and number of people.
The heel of Italy is only now gaining popularity. Ironic considering that it is one of the most beautiful parts of Italy, and yet, it still is overshadowed by other more famous cities. All things considered, this is what made us fall in love with it, because it is still safe from mass tourism and overcrowded zones.
The area is twice as big as Lebanon, with half its population. The plus: we can visit a lot of things in 10 days. The minus: we can't see everything sadly :) But we promise to fill those 10 days with everything that makes Puglia famous and amazing. This is why we catered this trip with everything that makes traveling with Tourleb a great experience: History, palaces, turquoise waters, yummy local specialties, wine tastings, locals, shopping, and much much more.
And while we get to experience the area live, here are some (because there are many!) fun facts to build up the anticipation:
1- It is famous for its olive oil production and provides 40% of the country's olive oil.
2- Puglia has the longest coastline of any mainland region in the country
3- The Pizzica, a popular Italian folk couples dance originally from Salento, is kept very much alive in Puglia. There even is a yearly event that has been happening for 26 years.
4- Fare un Brindisi in Puglia means to make a toast. One legend says the term Fare un Brindisi originated in Roman times. For instance, Roman Soldiers left for war via the Appian way which ended in Brindisi. Before they left the harbor to fight their next battle, they made a toast for a successful war and a safe and healthy return home.
5- There are local dialects in Puglia, such as Barese, Foggiano and even Griko, which is considerably closer to Greek than Italian.
6- Puglia has one of the world’s only eight-sided castles: Castel del Monte, in Andria.
7- Puglia is the least mountainous region in Italy.
