About this trip

Upper Mustang Trek is one of the most scenic and thrilling Himalayan trips in Nepal. The Mustang trek leads you through dry and arid landscapes within high eroded and broken canyons and towering cliffs of varied colors. Which changes along with the sunlight. Mustang Trek will be an enjoyable journey into hidden areas of Nepal's Far North-Western Himalaya close to the border of Tibet, where the route leads on the old Trans Himalaya Salt and Caravan Trail that still exists at present where the road to Tibet continues far beyond Mustang towards Karo-la pass.

Upper Mustang Trek actually an extension of the vast South West Tibetan plateau. Where culture and religions are similar as you explore its impressive villages lined with prayer walls and a series on prayer wheels with impressive Buddhist inscriptions and carving on rocks and walls. Upper Mustang Trek involves a scenic short flight from nice and lovely Pokhara city to land at Jomsom small airstrip, within headquarters town of Mustang district and home of Thakali people who have been in trade with Tibet since ancient times. The walk begins heading within a wide Kaligandaki River Valley to reach the entrance village of Upper Mustang at Kagbeni.

I got Ghandruk Village* added to this trek for an extra fee. Therefore, it lasted 4 days instead of three. The success and pleasant memories are mainly due to the blessings of the 'weather gods' and thanks to my friendly guide, Surpa TAMANG, (Shurpa), who took good care of me on and off the trek. He had patience when I was climbing, especially steep steps. This particular trek, my very first one in Nepal, was a great success thanks to the combination of my good health, experience, friendly guide, Surpa, and also the beautiful weather. The accommodations were basic. The food was good (full board). I also got what the company promised and what I paid for all four days. *I experienced repeated e-mails of payment reminders from WeTravel on behalf of the organisation to whom I had paid on time the required amount in full already, as a disturbance and nuisance. It is still not resolved!

We, team of 8 people from US thoroughly enjoyed Everest Base Camp Trek with Nepal High Trek & Expedition Pvt. Ltd! (May 17-29th) The entire team, Anjan, Mr Budhi/Budha, Bahadhur family, everyone of them helped us all along the, by taking care of /offering us the trip guidance to arranging good accommodations/food to safely/caution, everything. Without their guidance and support, i couldn’t have completed this, for sure. I would highly recommend this Trek expedition team for everyone and happy to provide any additional info/feedback. Thanks High Trrek & Expedition team for helping me in accomplishing this amazing and fantastic adventure.

The area itself is shockingly polluted: both the villages and the trail are strewn with garbage, the air is choked with dust and smoke, and the local herders beat their animals, whip them, and throw stones the size of one's fist at them. Nepal High Trek's guides didn't seem to me to have any of the training required for such a trek or any idea how to work with people. I would not consider booking with them again, I'd urge other travellers to look for more reputable tour operators, and, given how uncivilized it is, I would recommend avoiding the Manaslu region entirely.
