About this trip

Surrounded by the blue waters of the Mediterranean, Siciliy’s beauty is unmatched. In addition, it’s heritage and culture are unique given the history of the island as a cultural crossroads. Greeks, Phoeneicians, North Africans, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Spaniards, and Normans have all laid claim to parts of Sicily and left their marks. The Greeks brought amazing temples and art; the Romans built roads and villas; the Byzantines left stunning gold mosaics; the North Africans brought citrus, sugar, and durum wheat; the Arabs shaped the language; the Spanish brought chocolate and cacti from the Americas; and the Normans created space for religious tolerance and cultural fusion. The backdrop for all of this is a land rich with olives, almonds, pistachios, citrus fruit, and, most important, grapes!

Itinerary

Day 1
Transfer to and Explore Taormina

Arrive to Catania and we'll quickly sweep you away to Taormina. Situated on slopes of Mt. Etna, it's is the ideal place to start our exploration of Sicily’s wine and history. The rich volcanic soil makes this a prime location for viniculture and the volcano itself fanned the flames of ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Persephone, carried to the underworld by Hades, and Hephaestus, the god of metal work, are both associated with the island.

Tuscany was an incredible experience! Lauren and Alisha were amazing hosts and had everything planned perfectly. Our hotel was beautiful, the tours were spectacular, and the food was delicious.

WOW! Awesome trip. From the moment we arrived at our fabulous hotel in Lisbon, we didn't worry about anything. We experienced perfectly located accommodations, indulged in all kinds of new and exotic foods and toured of breathtaking sites. I can't find words sufficient to describe the beauty of the Douro Valley. Until this trip, we never even knew we loved Port. The group dynamics were comfortable and we shared stimulating conversation with lots of new and old friends! Thank you Jake and Lauren.

We had such a fantastic experience on our Pride of Portugal trip. From excellent accommodations to fantastic experiences and awesome meals, everything was top-notch. Jake and Lauren did such a job of planning every little detail and making sure that the group was having a great time. In addition to the amazing sites and lasting memories, we also made new friends and future travel companions. You won’t be disappointed if you choose Terroir Tours!

Our Pride of Portugal tour was superb! The level of planning, organization and execution during the trip are a hallmark of how Jake and Lauren do their trips. The result is a complete 5-star experience for travelers. 5-star hotels, Michelin-star restaurants, walking tours of Lisbon and Porto with excellent English-speaking guides, and wonderful winery tours with tastings of the excellent still wines of Portugal and the Ports (of course). Our favorite part of the tour was Douro Valley. Taking boats up the river to Quinta de Ventozelo was great, and staying at a winery with excellent food and wines was wonderful. The jeep tour of the vineyard and Pinhao provided some fantastic views of the Douro Valley. We highly recommend Terroir Tours based on two excellent tour experiences.
