About this trip

What is Safety City?

Westerville Safety City is a program designed to teach students entering kindergarten in the fall about a variety of safety issues. Each student is taught basic rules of traffic and pedestrian safety, fire prevention, school bus safety, poison control, gun safety, water safety, and stranger awareness.   The program is operated by a non-profit organization. This organization coordinates the cooperative efforts of a variety of Westerville entities including the Westerville Divisions of Fire, Police and Communications. The Westerville City Schools participate by allowing the use of their facilities for the program. Part of the program focuses on Safety Town. Safety Town consists of miniature streets with crosswalks, traffic lights and familiar buildings such as the library, schools, and stores. The students ride tricycles as vehicles throughout the town while they practice their safety rules. Upon completion of the program, each student receives a Certificate of Achievement and participates in a graduation ceremony.

Who can attend Safety City?

Students that will be attending Kindergarten and First Grade in the fall of this year are eligible. Students are eligible to attend the program once and may not repeat it without prior approval.

Kid had a great time and wished it didn't have to end so soon!

The material and education learned was great and fun for my kiddo, but he was bored after the first week. 4 hours/day for 1 week would be better for both kids and parents.

Westerville Safety City was phenomenal. My son learned my phone number and our address in less than two weeks. He learned safety In any and all categories. His teacher Ms. Glorioso was incredible. She went above and beyond. I loved receiving daily pictures and updates. It felt like I was there. His teen helper was Jenna and he loved her. I literally can't say enough. It was organized. Fun. And incredibly beneficial. My little guy has wanted to be a police officer for quite a while. And this reinforced his interest and excitement. Thank you to Westerville safety city. My oldest can't wait to be a helper when she turns 13 and my littlest can't wait to attend in two years. Thank you so much.
