Arrive and check in at Hotel Ad Vineas / Guesthouse Nikolaihof
Wine tour & tasting at Weingut Nikolaihof
'Heurigen' buffet in the historic Nikolaihof courtyard
Located at the eastern end of the world-famous UNESCO Heritage Wachau, close to the wine town of Krems on the River Danube and surrounded by vines and apricot trees, this beautiful and homely 20 room hotel/guesthouse provides the ideal location for discovering this amazing wine region and the Danube region of Lower Austria.
The Ad Vineas hotel/guesthouse is ran by Elizabeth and Martin Samek and is situated right next to the historic, biodynamic Nikolaihof winery, the oldest winery in Austria, owned by Elizabeth's parents. Ad Vineas translates to 'In the vines'.
Ad Vineas provides a wonderful place to rest and relax - the rooms are large and comfortable and the lovely gardens, swimming pond, gardens, small spa and outdoor seating area provides welcome opportunity to unwind and appreciate the wonderful Wachau nature and environment.
Like the winery, the guesthouse is certified organic, with local suppliers preferred and a focus on sustainable practices.
Nikolaihof in Mautern is the oldest winery in Austria, with a history stretching back some 2000 years and a tour of the historic Roman cellars reveals the incredible Roman fortifications and original wooden wine press. Today Nikolaihof is a trailblazer in biodynamic viticulture and winemaking and is known for its superb Riesling and Grüner Veltliner wines.
