After an incredible breakfast and finishing our bike building, we kick off our amazing Ecuador MTB Enduro adventure. In the heart of Quito lies the Metropolitano trail system, where we ride for the first morning. These trails are great for acclimatizing to the altitude, and will help you familiarize yourself with Ecuadorian trail construction and the types of dirt that you will ride during this trip.

Following delicious lunch in the heart of Quito, we head over to the Lumbisi trails to enjoy Ecuador’s first purpose-built mountain bike specific trails.

CotoPaxi Bike Park is a dream come true for mountain bikers and what we all dream about when we think about the best mountain bike trails. 

Today we do multiple shuttle runs, each with 300-400 meters of descent, have some lunch, then head out for more good times. Choose to hit the jumps lines, take some laps on the pump track, or return to the trails and keep ripping! Tonight we will be sleeping at the base of the Cotopaxi Volcano in the most charming guest house!

Today, we shuttle three epic CotoPaxi freeride routes, with each lap starting at 4,600m /15,500 ft and descending about 1,000 m / 3,300 ft.

Experience the thrill of choosing your own line and unleashing your creative MTB style as you surf your way down CotoPaxi’s volcanic scree fields. Chart your own path through the breathtaking high-alpine tundra and grasslands, teeming with natural features, massive rock wallrides, and thrilling volcanic shoots. Day 5: Rest Day and Travel to Ibarra
This morning, you can take it slow with a leisurely breakfast before packing up for our journey to Ibarra. The 3-hour drive will take us through the scenic Valley of Volcanoes, providing an opportunity to admire the dramatic landscape shaped by volcanic activity. We'll pause in Otavalo, a town known for its vibrant indigenous culture and traditional markets, to enjoy an authentic Andean lunch. Arriving in Ibarra later in the afternoon, you'll check into Casa Suaya, a charming, family-run property that features beautifully decorated cabins and a welcoming hot tub—a perfect spot to unwind and prepare for the next phase of your adventure.

The desert landscapes of Ibarra present a stark contrast to the lush highlands, showcasing Ecuador's incredible geographic diversity. Sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading out to Cotacachi, a quaint town known for its artisanal leatherwork and picturesque setting. Here, you can immerse yourself in local culture, visit markets, and learn about the region’s heritage. After returning to Casa Suaya, take part in a traditional Temazcal sweat lodge ceremony, a unique and spiritually rejuvenating experience that uses heat, steam, and native herbs to cleanse the body. This cultural immersion day is designed to provide a well-deserved break while connecting you to Ecuador’s rich history and traditions.

We head to the stunning Laguna de Cuicocha to take on the Machetes trail, a must-ride for any serious mountain biker. Starting high in the alpine zone, the trail drops over 5,500 feet through an astonishing variety of ecosystems. You'll experience everything from high-altitude grasslands and cloud forests to the dense, humid jungle as you descend. Each section of the trail offers a different challenge, from fast flow to technical rooty segments, providing a comprehensive riding experience that tests your skills and endurance while rewarding you with awe-inspiring natural beauty.

Our last day of riding takes us back to the deserts of Ibarra for one more chance to conquer the freeride terrain. In the evening, we celebrate the conclusion of an unforgettable journey with a Pampa Mesa feast—a traditional Andean communal meal—followed by a festive gathering at Casa Suaya. It’s the perfect way to cap off an extraordinary adventure in Ecuador.

We begin our journey back to Quito, but not before making a special stop at the equator to learn about the science and folklore surrounding the middle of the Earth. Snap some photos, learn about the Coriolis effect, and enjoy one last adventure before reaching Hotel Ilalo to pack your gear. Reflect on your journey as you prepare for your return home. This final day offers a chance to unwind and reflect on the incredible landscapes, thrilling rides, and cultural experiences you've encountered throughout the trip.
