About this trip

J O I N  U S  F O R  M A C H U   P I C C H U !!!

We are going back for a second time! Don't miss your chance to come with us!! Cross this magical place off your bucket list and join us for an incredible adventure to one the New 7 Wonders of the World - Machu Picchu!!

Our trip begins with two days exploring America's oldest living city, Cusco allowing. you to acclimate to the altitude before our trek begins. Spend time exploring the city's history, indulging in delicious local dishes, meander through shops. local markets and more. After a couple days exploring this beautiful city, we'll set out on our 5 day journey along the Salkantay Trek ending at magnificent Machu Picchu.

The Salkantay Trek is a fully supported 40 mile journey less traveled than its counterpart the Inca Trail. Not only will you encounter rampant beauty along the way, but because it is more rugged and remote, the Salkantay Trek is significantly less populated than the Inca Trail. Day by day you will travel through changing ecosystems and scenery: from sweeping, magical landscapes and snowy mountains to a tropical jungle paradise. Along the way, you will see a wide variety of wildlife, medicinal plants, and flower lol varieties. Witness, with your own eyes, a living, and ancient, culture in remote villages hardly ever visited by foreigners!

After an incredible journey to Machu Picchu, your final evening will be spent in a Cusco hotel to relax before you depart!

Additional Machu Picchu Permits - Huayna Picchu or Huchuy Picchu

Beginning in 2023, the government put a new permit system into place limiting the amount of time and places within the site that guests are allowed to visit. For each circuit there is a designated path that every permit holder is required to follow and you are not allowed to backtrack through the circuit once you have completed it.

On the trip, you will complete Circuit 2 with your trekking guides. The tour will begin at 6 am in the morning, leaving Augas Calientes very early to catch one of first buses up to the site to try and beat the crowds. The guided tour takes an average time of 2.5 hours to complete and 3 hours is the maximum time allowed on this circuit.

Once the circuit tour ends, you will not be able to retrace your steps on the circuit or reenter Machu Picchu. At this time, you have the option to return to Aguas Calientes with the trekking guides where you will have 4-5 hours to explore town, enjoy lunch, shop, etc. before leaving on the 2:55 train/bus to Cusco.

IF YOU WISH FOR MORE TIME TO EXPLORE MACHU PICCHU there are a couple options available which will require you to buy an additional permit. This is not guided hike and you will be responsible to hike it on your own and return to Aguas Calientes on the bus in order to make your train and bus transfer back to Cusco.

PLEASE NOTE - ALL PERMIT REQUESTS are based on a first come, first serve basis. There are limited permits offered each day for this hike so we can not guarantee a spot. If you are not issued a permit at the time of booking, you will be refunded for your payment.

Rainbow Mountain Extension -May 24th - 26th

Join us for this 3 day/2 night extension where you will have a free day to explore the city, learn about the local cuisine with a hands-on cooking class, and explore Rainbow Mountain on ATVs!

Activity Level - IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Due to her high altitude and steep slopes, you will need a reasonable level of fitness to complete the Salkantay Trek. But that should not be a barrier! The most important thing is to be well-acclimated to the altitude. The highest point you will reach on the trek is 15255 ft /4650 m. We will spend the recommended two days in Cusco to acclimate before the journey. This is a women's only trip.

This is a women's only trip. You can find the full trip itinerary, terms of service, etc. here: https://www.womenwhoexplore.com/adventure-travel

This trip was incredible!! Not only because of the hiking, views, and trekking, but because of the amazing group of women I was blessed to go with. First off - Lisa is an amazing trip host! She looks out for everyone, takes time to get to each person on a personal level, is so much fun, and is just a wonderful human being. Second - Sarah with Happy Tracks was THE BEST guide. I can not say enough good things about her. Everything was organized well. This trek will test you physically and mentally, but it’s so worth it! I can’t wait to go on another WWE trip!

If trekking the Tour du Mont Blanc is not already HIGH on your bucket list, then you most definitely need to add it. This absolutely awe-inspiring three country mountain loop circumnavigating the Mont Blanc massif is nothing short of - EPIC!! Seeing the majestic mountains, glaciers, wildflowers and all around breathtaking scenery will leave you speechless! Women Who Explore did another fandamntastic job of putting everything together so we could all enjoy this once in a lifetime adventure! I can't say enough good about this other than I hope you make it a part of your To-Do-List and go experience it first hand yourself. It will not disappoint!!

I can't thank WWE enough for their support and encouragement as I readied myself for the Iceland Ring Road adventure and traveled that 800ish miles of highway 1. Not being a world traveler all my worries were for naught. Our group was a beautiful mix of women of all ages and from many places in the USA and Canada. At 66 years I physically felt very able to participate in all we did. We had the opportunity to make each hike or tour stop our own by making it a bit longer, a bit shorter, or even wait at the van if we needed that option. I made it through the long, busy days with only head bobs on the bus the last day. So much to see. My son commented my photos looked like National Geographic photos - well that is what the entire trip felt like I was on. I am homesick already. Karrie, the WWE host was so organized and such a good communicator and our Viking Women's guide, Villimey was exceptional and really cared about us all. If I wasn't so exhausted, I would head back tomorrow and return to Akurayri to whale watch. It was a truly emotional experience to meet humpback whales and minke whales in the largest of Iceland's fiords. Iceland was definitely a life changing experience for me and WWE scaffolded my preparation and travel so I always felt at ease. Visiting Iceland with WWE was one of the best experiences of my life and am so grateful for the support they all provided!!

Hiking in Greece with WWE has been such a joy! The trip was very well planned, accommodations were very nice and the guides were so thoughtful. Our food was fresh and so healthy! I would 100% travel with WWE again.

This trip was amazing! The Faroe Islands are still wild and barely touched by tourism! Our accommodation was perfectly located in Torshavn. We were within walking distance to a grocery store, Old Town, the harbor, and all the restaurants. Every activity was well thought out and no more than 45 minutes away. The trip hosts were attentive and fun to be around. I definitely would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience something different!

What an absolutely incredible experience on the Riviera Maya + Whale Shark adventure. Felt so connect to the culture in the area with our incredible guide! Also getting the perks of knowing to go to the tulum ruins early in the morning before the rush as well as the local cenotes. I will absolutely do another trip.

I completed my first real hiking experience - the Salkantay trek - Peru. Not only was this an experience I’ll never forget (for so many different reasons) but it was by far one of the best experience challenging me mentally, physically and spiritually. The ambassadors (Amanda & Krys) were phenomenal as were our three Peruvian guides. The group was uniquely fabulous and supportive. The accommodations, food and treks ranked 15 out of 10. This was a much needed adventure for me and I am so very glad I participated. Thank you to all who coordinated and took part in such a great experience.

Best decision I ever made! I felt like a crazy person when I first booked this trip because who books a trip to Mexico with 9 strangers?? This trip was everything I needed! I made 9 friends and came home filled with confidence knowing that once “scary” things were now in my comfort zone. I tell everyone I ever meet about WWE and will 1000% be booking another trip with them. Our tour guide was so kind and took care of all us and made us feel comfortable. The trip was so well organized and left plenty of room for us to explore on our own, or add new things to the itinerary. We learned so much about the local culture, cuisine, agriculture and more with our local guide who was a friend by the end of the trip, and all 10 of us were crying when it was time to say goodbye. If you are considering a trip with WWE, just do it. You’re going to have an incredible time.
