About this trip

Welcome to the fantastic world of the Ecuadorian Amazon Forest «YARINA ECOLOGICAL RESERVE«, a veritable paradise located in the province of Orellana, in the heart of YASUNÍ National Park.

The adventure starts with a 30-minute flight from Quito to El Coca, traversing the majestic Andes, and flying over the beautiful Ecuadorian forest. Then you will sail through the waters of the Napo River, the main tributary of the Amazonas River, up to its confluence with Rio Maduro.

The crossing from El Coca toward the Yarina Ecological Reserve is comfortably done in power-driven canoes, and takes about one hour, during which time you can enjoy the view of the beautiful riverside landscapes and the homes of Quichua communities, that even today keep their customs and traditions, such as the making of «chica de yuca» (a traditional saliva-fermented yuca drink).

Get ready to enjoy days filled with adventures, learning and new discoveries.

We had a great time, the trip was so well planned, packed with different activities. Our guide Orlando was amazing! Highly recommend him.

Beautiful location. But a poorly organized trip. Especially when it came to arrival/departures, many things were unclear. Did not get to experience the things promised on the itinerary. Little care for details. I would not do it again.

I enjoyed my two night excursion with my guide Efrain. He made sure i understood him and helped all along the way. The facilities could have been fresher and newly painted, but it was fine. The food was good, they provided what I had requested. We didn’t see wildlife or birds, but heard a lot of sounds in the jungle.

From beginning to end, our experience with Akangau was flawless. Very good communication prior to the trip, quick to answer questions and arrange pickup. During the trip, Daniel was the perfect guide - it seems there isn't any plant, animal or insect he doesn't have encyclopaedic knowledge of, and he knows the local, Spanish and English names for everything. All of the transport was on time, the lodge was a lot more comfortable than we expected, and the food was good too. When my wife was sick, Daniel even made sure to take me to the Shaman to collect some medicinal plants to make an infusion for her, which worked well. When we wanted to make adjustments to the tour to suit our specific interests or preferences, he made it happen. At the end of the trip, they helped us check bus timetables and got us to the bus station in time to make sure we left safely for Quito. Some of the trekking is quite intense at parts, so if you are unsure about this, check the details with Akangau to understand the distances/times/climbs involved. They would likely be able to adjust the standard itinerary accordingly if needed We thought the trip was very good value too, and recommended it to anyone who wants to do a jungle tour in Ecuador!
