This project is designed as an international health and clinical outreach program for PA students.
This primary health care project is designed as an introductory Global Health and primary health care program for physician assistant students, physicians, and other health care providers with the purpose of providing the participants with an international clinical experience while simultaneously providing medical outreach to a community in a developing country .
Specifically, approximately 20 second-year physician assistant students along with their supervisors will spend 4-5 days providing primary care evaluations to approximately 1,000 local inhabitants. The students will gain clinical evaluation skills (taking histories and performing physical examinations) and will also supply basic medications to the patients for medical problesms such as hypertension, analgesia, and infections.
The mission is also a cross-cultural exploration mission that draws on the expertise of The African Cultural Exchange in fostering professional and cross-cultural interactions and partnerships between counterparts that are encouraged by the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal-17 (SDG-17) which advocates creating Global Partnerships for sustainable development that work toward promoting health system strengthening.
