About this trip

Zanzibar is an  archipelago made up of 4 large islands and several smaller islands. The main island, Unguja, has long been a centre of maritime trade. Its capital, Stone Town, where much of the architecture is still well preserved, you can breathe and feel the footprints of the rich and cosmopolitan history of this city, a unique place where East and West converge. Outside the city, the island abounds with endless white sand beaches popular with kite surfers, but also wild, rocky and quiet coves.


Join us as we explore the history of Islam in the regions with Ustadh Mustafa Briggs. Enjoy daily classes, madrassa visits, time in nature and swims in the indian Ocean. We’ll explore various coasts, historical sites and more! This trip is for anyone who enjoys adventure, food and good company. We've planned beach days, boat rides, mosque visits, a spice farm tour and more!

Cancelation Policy and Terms/Conditions

Burgundy Roots prides itself in unique and curated travel experiences. In order for us to fulfill our promise, we must pay our suppliers ahead of time. Please note that once your deposit is processed, it cannot be recuperated as our suppliers are paid upfront months ahead of time. Thank you for your understanding. Please read carefully through our cancellation policy and message us if you have any questions.


Deposit/payment terms:  Please note that the first TWO deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. Deposits must be  received within the time specified at the time of booking in order to confirm your booking and avoid automatic cancellation. If you are unable to attend for whatever reason, you may transfer the trip to a family member or friend. 


Cancellation charges: 

Please note that deposits and payments are non-refundable.  In the event of a travel ban due to COVID-19 or any other unforeseen circumstances, retreat dates will be altered to a later date. No refunds will be granted. Discomfort/unease with regards to travel or quarantine upon return will not be considered. All payments are final and non-refundable.


Final payment:

Final payment is due 90 days prior to the trip. Final payments are due 90 days prior to the trip. Any cancelation made 90 days or more prior to the trip is subject to a 50% penalty (your card will be charged another 25% of the retreat fee). Any cancelation made 89 days or less prior to trip is subject to full payment of retreat fee.  


Vaccination: It is incumbent upon each traveler to check the rules and regulations in regards to vaccination demands in each country. Each traveler must ensure that they meet the criteria upon entry, as no refund will be granted if one does not meet the criteria. You may sell your slot or send someone else on your behalf instead, however no refund nor credit will be granted.

Welcome to Zanzibar!

Welcome to the island of Unguja, popularly known as Zanzibar!


Upon arrival, guests will make their way to Makundichi (we will connect you with the hotel to book your airport pick up) Upon arrival, you'll  meet the group and team at our hotel. Check in begins at 3:00 PM. Our team will be there to ensure that check in is smooth and easy for everyone.


Please note that airport pick up and drop off is NOT part of the package.

The Burgundy Roots Morocco road trip was nothing short of magical—a perfect blend of breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and incredible hospitality. What truly made this trip unforgettable was sharing it with our wonderful travel companion, Wafa. Her adventurous spirit and infectious energy added an extra layer of joy to the experience. Special shoutout to Khadija and Muhammad as well, who were awesome hosts along the ride. I would recommend this trip to everyone… a road trip through Morocco with BR is an absolute must! I left with lifelong friends and am already dreaming of my next trip there.

This was my third experience with Burgundy Roots Retreats, following directly to the Uzbekistan tour. From initial contact, to booking, to superb coordination by the organizers, the excellent knowledge and wonderful humor of our guides, and the selection of tour sites, the trips were organized and run smoothly and with the interests and comfort of the participants always kept in mind. Thank you Wafa & Burgundy Roots for a wonderful trip. Uzbekistan was beautiful, the itinerary was the perfect combination of group activities and flexible spare time, and everything was thought out to the smallest detail. We got an authentic experience of the culture and cuisine through the choices and stories of our wonderful guides. As someone who was there because of a general passion for history and a desire to visit all the former USSR countries in my lifetime, I was the only non-Muslim in the group but I never felt left out or like I didn't belong in the group. Regardless of faith, if you have an open mind, you will greatly benefit from this trip. I look forward to discovering more of Central Asia in the future, and to travelling with Burgundy Roots to other lands!

I have been on two Burgundy roots trips so far and I must say, the itineraries are very well thought out.
