I am a lover of education, travel, nature, history, community, and yoga. As an avid traveler, it is difficult for me to just go to the beach. I know that there are people who love doing that, but I need just a bit more. In Costa Rica, one has the opportunity to lounge at the beach, dip one's toes in Caribbean OR Pacific waters, see monkeys, play with sloths, marvel at manatees, zip-line, raft rapids, eat the best mangos you've ever had (seriously), drink passionfruit juice every day, learn about the history and culture of Central America, and interact with the indigenous Bri Bri community. AND you can do all of this in an eco-friendly way. This retreat is designed for the person who doesn't want to be cloistered in a resort for a week, but would like the option to engage in a culturally meaningful way while enjoying a blissful yoga retreat. Choose your adventure.
Puerto Viejo is in the Limón Province on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. It is south and east of San José, and close to neighboring country, Panama. Playa Chiquita is located 3.7m / 6 km south of Puerto Viejo, and is the secluded beach area where we will be staying at the Tierra de Sueños Retreat Wellness & Center. Because of its location, one can enjoy absolute respite in Playa Chiquita or take a 10 minute taxi ride to lively Puerto Viejo. Check out Tierra de Sueños and Playa Chiquita!
You will not be sequestered at the retreat center so that you may enjoy all that this Costa Rican area has to offer. Excursions are optional and highly encouraged!
(Guided excursions range from $40-90 and are arranged directly with the excursions organizers.)

Personally, I do not believe any trip to Puerto Viejo is complete unless you've biked all around. You can rent a bike for $8/day on Playa Chiquita, or head to PV proper and rent a bike there. This is a very laid back part of the country, so expect greetings of "Pura Vida!" and a lifestyle that sways to a reggae beat.
